charlie is an abortion....but hes far from the reason they suck...in fact id rather have him as the manager of a hideous team like this than have him butchering it up during a pennant race

i agree with that. they aren't good enough.

but Charlies constant blunders are fun to pick apart.

they have the 5th worst team era...combind with the 5th worst batting average.

the defensive savior in the outfield has 2 errors and 1 assist this season, while sporting the 2nd worst fielding % on the team, only in front of bell.

howards defense has been atrocious.

there is exactly 1 starter with an era under 5.00 (Myers)
there are three starters over 6.00 (Floyd, Madsen, Lieber)

....this season is shaping out nicely.

in other news around the league....
V Padilla is 2-1 with a 3.75 era in 4 starts
Some slugger on the white sox is hitting .333 with 7HRs
Some guy we traded away for a murderer (well attempted anyway) is again hitting .339

but shhhh...we're not allowed to talk about that.

i am basing nothing on nothing. but right now Rowand is at the bottom of almost every defensive category when compared to other CF's in the national league. Zone Rating, .795 (worst in the NL)...overall Feilding % and errors...base your own conclusion on those numbers...

they are 6-9

they are 2nd last in the NL with runs scored with teams that have 15+games (with 9 home games down in a hitters park), and have given up 95 runs (only two worse in the NL, pitt and cinn). team fielding is in the bottom 5 of the majors.

so far they have sucked, there are barely any positives to be said. i had that whole post, and you want to pick on semantic's of rowards ability or inability to boost the defense (which is completely irrelevant in CBP anyway)?

they have the worst home record in baseball in a schedule that was supposed to favor the phils early.

yes, they suck right now, i agree.

but when you first use "defensive savior" in a sarcastic way, followed up by fielding % that makes me respond.

but yes...we can both agree that they are not fun to watch right now.

well thats what this team told us all winter...that rowand will solve all the defensive problems in the OF (which i didnt think there was any).

and what kills me right now, is abreu getting shtein on from everywhere, yet...rowand, howard and utley (funny the three guys AROUND him n the field) getting passes for their zesty play in the feild.

yeah, but Rowand hasn't played poorly, he dropped one in the sun, i can't remember his other error, but you can't look at that.

he has great range, better than the Michaels/Lofton combo last year.

yes, Howard hasn't played well in the field either. but what it comes down is that Abreu has a rep (rightly or wrongly) and when he makes some of the plays he makes, people fall back onto that rep and give him shtein. Rowand, Utely, and Howard don't have that rep, so people give them a pass.
