the pitcher the phils let go for nothing because no one liked him (boo farging hoo) is 2-0 with a 3.00 era.

the slugger everyone gave up on and wanted to trade to let howard play is batting .318 with 4 hrs

stop. Please.

not 2nd guessing thome...it was a choice to make between him and howard. i have no problems wityh that. but he was basically run out of town because he was hurt last season

but i am with padilla

i dont understand why he was let go...and for nothing. the guy, while a little whacko, didnt like the media, had more talent than any other pitcher left on the roster.

the phils got nothing for him and that is totally pathetic and a complete farg up by gillick, and it is clear that this team isnt even close to as good as last season.

obviously the Phils are playing like shtein, but I still think it is too early to write them off after seeing what the Astros did last year.

Thome is also a DH.  Big difference when you dont have to take the field every day.

...because he was getting tired sprinting to 1st base to catch the ball and diving all over the place?

they also have a pitching staff (even without clemens so far this season) that is almost 2nd to none in the NL.

oswalt, petitte, lidge, backe...

and you watch, Taylor Buchholz will win 15 games this season. (the main prospect sent to houston for wagner)

ok, so you have written them off, I havnt.

PhillyGirl

anyone who writes off a team after 7 games in a 162 game season is retarded.

Have a nice day.

I agree that writing the Phillies off after one week is preposterous.

Personally, I'm giving them at least two.

;)

SunMo

i'm not writing them off, but this team looks identical to last years and the year before.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

if they are not at least 5 games above .500 by may 31....you can make other plans. we saw last season that games in april mean as much as they do in sept.

(6 vs brewers)
(7 vs rockies)
(3 vs reds)
(3 vs pirates)

all terrible teams last season

and the division games

2 move vs braves
6 vs nats
6 vs mets
5 vs marlins

2 other series
3 vs red sox
3 vs giants

thats 44 games. they want the summer to be interesting...they NEED to go 27-17 in that stretch. otherwise both the braves and maybe the mets will be too far in front of them.

but what do i know...i may be retarded ::)

The big mistake with Thome was signing him in the first place- NOT because of Thome (who I loved), but because it kept Howard down for an extra year (He turns 27 in November), which was Ed Wade's MO (let the prospects wither on the vine).

Having Howard ready to go full bore, Gillick getting not just a starting CF, but two top-tier pitching prospects for Thome was an excellent move.

As for Padilla, between his alleged affinity for the bottle, his lack of production for the past 2+ years (16-19, 4.50+ ERA, 1.5+ WHIP, walking more than ever) and recent injury history, I'm not sure what the Phils could have gotten for him.  A prospect?  Would have been low-end, but perhaps better than spring training roster fodder.  Prime value would have been after 2003 (two consecutive 14-win seasons), and even last winter would have been better.

i had them written off before the season started
did i think theyd be this bad no
do i think they are this bad no
did i ever think they would make the playoffs no

75-85 wins
