He should be protecting Howard by hitting 6th.  Howard should be 5th.  Utley should be 2nd.  Utley is not a cleanup hitter or a #5 hitter.  Howard is hitting too low in the order and has no protection behind him....

i disagree with utley in the two hole...he strikes out too much and is a total pull hitter...he not a move the runner kind of guy hes a drive the runner in guy...id put him in the 6th hole behind howard...they dont really have a two hole hitter rowand is as good as any right now...

what they really need to do is get rid of burrell and replace him with a 75-85 rbi contact hitter...theres way to many all or nothing people in this lineup...unfortunately i think they tried that and found out they cant give burrell away

I say it's because he's batting in the wrong spot in the lineup.

The 6th hitter is going to get garbage pitches because .072 is hitting behind him.  You need someone who is good at making contact and someone who can take walks to hit there, like Bobby A.  I know hitting him 6th sounds silly, but for the reasons i mentioned above, that would be a good spot for him.

You hit Rollins at leadoff, Rowand 2nd, Chase 3rd, Burrell 4th, Howard 5th, and Abreu 6th.  that way, the protection of hitters climbs up the the ladder all the way to Rowand.

couldnt agree with this statement more...but in mngmt's eyes its hard to give up 115+ RBI's

Utley is tough because he is either going to SO or get you a hit. He's hard to place in the lineup, because either you want momentum to start off the lineup or you want RBI's when you have runners on base. Since he's like 3rd or 4th in the league at his position in RBI's, I think you keep him down there (I think Manuel sees it like that, but he can barely read, so its potluck I guess). Problem there having now is the SO's at the 4th and 5th and now the 6th spot with Utley generating squat. Cant have it obviously. As soon as Howard gets going, Utley will follow. Im waiting for the ripple effect and it will happen soon. They have an intimidating line-up, its just a matter of time.

abreau walks over 100 times every year and has a very good obp...he has to hit in front of the big boys not behind them
