gordon for wagner has been an even swap.
rowand for michaels/lofton has also been an even swap (actually the offense is down from the CF spot...but we're not allowed to talk about that because rowand likes running into walls, and thats cool philly AD-EE-TOOD.)

are you one of those guys who hates players that the fans love because they play hard?

talk about Rowand's average offense all you want, that was known going in.  but to call Lofton's defense and Rowand's defense the same is just wrong.

you're reading too much into my comment. i like rowand a lot, and it was a good trade. i am talking about gillick here, and his non-improvement over last season. the good players gillick has managed to bring in for this season, offset the losses from last season, they are not out and out improvements. the record thus far is proof of that.

rowand was a good aquisition. but he wasnt replacing total crap.  thats my point.

if rowand played 3B and replaced david bell, the aquiring of rowand would look that much better. i am not bashing rowand.

it basically comes down to two things...that gillick has lost it. or that gillicks hands are tied, and if that is the case, nothing will ever change.

i got you, i am just irritated with some fans who hate Rowand because of what he did and that makes him a fan favorite, i thought you were going that way.

as far as Charlie, this clearly is not all his fault.  but just when you want to take him off the hook, he does stupid shtein like continueing to put Jimmy Rollins at the lead off spot and mismanaging the pitching staff.  i think the perfect way to sum up Charlie is that he isn't the problem, but he sure doesn't do anything to help the problem either.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

In some ways, Wingspan, Gillicks hands were tied by contracts that were still around from the Wade era.  Bell, Lieberthal, Burrell and the lot have a lot of money already spent, and it was fairly well known that the Skinflints weren't going to be loosening the pursestrings any this season.

Trading Crazy Vicente was a mistake, though his numbers aren't that much better (7-5, 4.47) than those currently found among the Phils' current ragarms.  The mistake was more in the line of getting rid of a starting pitcher without at least a comparable replacement.

I'm willing to give Gillick the benefit of the doubt for this season.  THIS offseason is when he can start cleaning house.  Some of those huge contracts start coming off the books.

This month starts the true test of Gillick.  In a year's time, we'll know if he's on the right track, or if it's time to firebomb CBP and beg the Athletics to come back.  Blow it up, find a sucker to take Burrell, give Lieberthal his FA, get younger and rebuild.  AND FIND A THIRD BASEMAN THAT DOESN'T WANT ME TO THROW MY TV OUT THE WINDOW!

Looking at another sweep after a 5-2 loss and A.J. Burnett going against Ryan Franklin tomorrow

First time in Phils history that they won't win any of their six interleague series...

I'm rooting against the Phillies hardcore right now. I hope they lose every game for the rest of the season. Sometimes you need to take 10 steps back to take 1 step forward. This thing just needs to get as bad as it has ever been for major changes to be made. Maybe if the Phillies lose out the season, then we can get a change of ownership.

Also I hope they deal everyone at the deadline besides Howard and Utley. Just clean house and start over.

This teams makes me sick that they are a part of this city. I'm ashamed that I'm been a fan of them for all these years.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

Yeah, because the rest of the city's teams have been lighting it up with championship after championship.

The BIGSTUD

Exactly. The Phillies are the only team in a championship slump right now.

Ha. I'm home for the next day or two and I have zero interest in watching any of the game tomorrow. I'll probably stumble over just to see some Wheels.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

The BIGSTUD

I haven't watched one second of Phillies baseball since they lost that Mets series.

I don't miss it at all. I might not watch another game again.

I'm thinking of trying to become a Devil Rays fan.  Any tips, Romey?

BigEd76

Hey, the Rays finally got their #1 overall pick from 1999 to stay off drugs and rejoin the minor league teams, so there's someone to root for.  Name's Josh Hamilton and he's JD Drew with tattoos...and drugs...

Sure.  Stop confusing MLB with the NBA.
