Hamels just got Guillen for his seventh in the bottom of the fifth. He's thrown about 85 pitches so far, so he probably won't make it to the seventh inning.

*Just got his eighth against Nick Johnson.

Phils have Brian Sanches loosening up in the BP.  :paranoid

Sanches in for the sixth.

Hamels:
5 IP, 6 hits, 4 earned runs, 2 walks, and 8 stikeouts.

Usually you're not going to see 4 earned runs in 5 innings when the pitcher k's 8.  That's what the Phillies do though.  They defy logic like it's nobody else's business.

Could have been less if Burrell didnt suck ass in left.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

ice grillin you

just got back from the train wreck

the one thing i took out of this series more than anything else is the imcompetancy of charlie manuel and the utter lack of professionalism on the phils...

the nationals have half the talent the phils have but they have an absolutely great manager...so they do things the right way...poking breaking balls to the opposite field with half swings on 0-2 counts...moving the runners ahead...taking an extra base on the paths...making all the right plays int he field ect...whereas the phils do just abiut everything the wrong way

the difference can be seen in one simple comparison...soriano absolutely refused to play outfield at the start of the year and robinson basically said you will play outfield or youll go back to picking coffee beans in the dominican republic...whereas charlie manuel couldnt get god to convince bobby abreu to bat lead off

i guess it doesnt matter now as the phils werent going to win anything this year anyway....but i am personally counting the days until next year when they have a real manager

i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

The Nationals are one of the hottest teams in the majors right now....

Abreu said he would hit lead off. Charlie likes him 3rd.

abreu said a couple of weeks ago that he would lead off if he was asked to.

if it wasn't for the free food afterwards at the picnic at the park thing it would have been a total waste of a day.

you are a straight sucka if you believe that

abreu might bat leadoff for a few games but if you think hed ever become a fulltime leadoff hitter youre nuts...of course tho hes gonna say the right thing so people like you can be oooooh he said hed bat leadoff...what a great guy

abreu has made it clear for the last 6 years that hes not gonna be a leadoff hitter period...and the organization has let him dictate that

Abreu never said he wouldnt lead off. He said that he would prefer to bat 345. He did hit leadoff a few years ago for a seriesm without much success. If his name is at the top of the card tuesday, he will go out and play. He won't be that happy, neither would anyone who has had the type of success that he has had in the middle of the order, but he'll still go out and do what he can to help the team win.

Soriano didnt want to play left, and in fact refused to take the field at one point. When it was brought to his attention that he can either go play left or not get paid, he went to play left. Abreu isnt going to boycott playing if hes not 345, he just prefers and feels most comfortable there. In fact, hes right to think that way. However, if the Phillies can get one more consistant offensive performer (Rollins, Bell and Rowand are not...they are all 7/8 guys) to hit 6th, I would be pleased with Abreu batting 1st. But he means too much to the middle of the order and overall offensive producation from the team. It also marganilizes his skills and limits his abilities to help the team (mainly his over .300 average with risp) win.

Guess what?

Batting Bobby Abreu leadoff isnt a goddamn magic pill that will cure the big problems that this offense has. Having him in the one hole will not make them a more consistent team. It will not help Pat Burrell lay off the slider in the dirt. It will not help David Bell from popping out to every INF on the diamond. It will not help them hit better with RISP.

Until they get more consistent and strike out less as a team the lead off problem is not a big problem.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about Bobby "refusing" to bat leadoff. THIS TEAM IS INCONSISTENT!

Douchebag John Clark thinks Eude is starting on Wednesday.

That guy is seriously the biggest tool in the city.
