Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports Philadelphia Eagles CB Roderick Hood would like to sign a long-term deal with the team. Hood said he and agent George Mavrikes have talked to the Eagles about a longer deal, but "we can't come to terms.'' Hood believes he has proven he can be an NFL starter, and he wants his pay to reflect that, the same sort of ticklish situation that eventually led to the departure of his nickel predecessor, CB Al Harris. Hood emphasized that Mavrikes will continue to talk to the Eagles, even with the tender settled.

Reuben Frank, of phillyburbs.com, reports Philadelphia Eagles OT Jon Runyan's three-year contract is valued at $12.4696 million. As noted earlier, it includes base salaries of $1.15 million (2006), $2.9 million (2007) and $3.2 million (2008). The contract also included roster bonuses of $2.5 million this year and $1 million each in 2007 and 2008. The deal includes $350,000 in likely-to-be-earned bonuses in 2007 and 2008. Runyan is also due workout bonuses of $6,160 this year and $6,720 next year and in 2008.

Hood signs 1-year tender, eyes long-term deal

Rod Hood still wants a long-term deal, but for now he's OK signing the middle-level restricted free-agent tender the Eagles offered earlier in the month.

The team announced yesterday that Hood had signed the tender, a 1-year contract for $1.5 million. Hood said he and agent George Mavrikes have talked to the Birds about a longer deal, but "we can't come to terms.''

Hood, 24, came to the Eagles as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2003 and has emerged as a solid nickel corner. He started six games last season and was one of the few bright spots in a 6-10 disaster, intercepting a career-high three passes and making a career-high 41 tackles. He also was the team's primary kickoff returner (38 for an average of 23.7 yards), a role that proved more challenging. The Eagles likely will move someone else into that job this season.

Hood believes he has proven he can be an NFL starter, and he wants his pay to reflect that - the same sort of ticklish situation that eventually led to the departure of his nickel predecessor, Al Harris. Starting corners Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown are signed to long-term contracts.

"Definitely,'' Hood said, when asked if he sees himself as a starting-quality corner. "I don't see myself as anything else.''

Hood emphasized that Mavrikes will continue to talk to the Eagles, even with the tender settled.

"I don't think he's giving up,'' Hood said.

RFA tenders are always only one year.

The good news with Hood's long-term contract situation is that both Lito and Sheldon signed relatively reasonable long-term deals.  You'd think there's no way Hood would demand better terms than they got, right?  Plus, the Eagles value CB's highly in general, would like to keep Hood, and obviously have plenty of cap space.  I would guess they get a deal done during the season a la Westbrook last year.

I'd say it's fairly reasonable to expect him to stick around 3 more years but I'm confident he'll be around no less than 2.

Runyan's contract is pretty cheap. He'll only count 1.98 million against this year's cap, roughly 4.23 million in year 2, and 5.53 million in year 3.

However, we'll see how is perfomance is this year.
