Pictured: Dramatic moment a stingray takes flight from hungry killer whale

With the predator lurking close behind, the intended prey takes flight - quite literally.
This flying stingray was trying to avoid the attentions of the aptly-named killer whale, which was ready to take a bite out of the fish when the stingray made its leap for safety.
While stingrays seem most content to spend their days lying at the bottom of the sea-bed, occasionally sticking their stingers into unassuming human feet, this one proved they can be moved to flights of fancy when needed.

The encounter was captured in calm waters just off St. Heliers beach in Auckland, New Zealand, yesterday.

Five or six orcas gathered in the morning sun to feast on the stingrays resting near the shore, while another 30 orcas hung around at the back of the harbour.

A huge crowd gathered to watch the spectacle.  Schoolchildren - who dashed out of class to watch the display - said the whales came right up to the shoreline and 'you would have been able to touch them if you'd tried to reach out'.

Some of the 'spectacles' - if an animal eating another animal can be called such a thing - included a whale flipping a stingray into the air before catching it in the mouth.
Another whale flipped onto its side and struck a sea-gull in midflight. The bird fell stunned into the water, providing another tasty morsel.

The whales receded with the tide at about 10.30am, their bellies full.

If law allows him to keep it then whats the big deal? I don't see the big deal. Its the commercial fisherman snagging sharks in their nets that people should be worrying about. Its a record setting catch. Most records setters are kept, not released because of that. They are usually older matured fish. Sorry just my opinion.

not to sound like a fag but how bout a little respect for something that rare and that's been around that long? I could see if the guy was starving but to catch something that magnificant for your own trophy is ignorant. I hope nature gets it's redemption and he's eaten by a shark one day.

Berlin  - The importers of the Chinese Shuanghuan CEO sports utility vehicle (SUV) that has a similar appearance to a model made by Germany's BMW must halt all sales and destroy all its vehicles in Germany, a court in Munich ruled Friday.

The court ordered the importers, China Automobile, to pay compensatory damages to BMW, which is based in Munich.

BMW alleges that the Shuanghuan CEO closely resembles its X5.

I like this. If it was China copying a make from the US there would be all this namby pamby crap tying up the court system for decades before some kind of negotiated 'settlement.' The car from China probably is made from all kinds of toxic materials with two wheels ready to fly off on any given turn. Also, car-destroyer would be kind of a cool job to have.
