Quote from: FFatPatt on February 08, 2007, 07:28:28 AMThe amount of vitriol you direct at those who choose to have any shred of faith in any part of life is astonishing.

I try to make it equal to the amount sanctimonious reverence people hold for religion and "faithful" people.  All you religious scumbags walking around thinking you're better because your god say so deserve scorn piled on vitriol piled on hate.  Not least for the harm your institutions have done and continue to do.

You might be amazed less at an oustiders hatred of religion, and more at how you could overlook the harm relgion inflicts.

Plus...it's all fake.  I'm sorry, but it's really, really hard to take anyone who believes in god all that seriously.  I am dubious of any judgments made by a person who believes in a dead man rising, or a virgin giving birth. The only difference between that person and one who says dragons once flew and unicorns once roamed is that the Christian enjoys a larger majority.  And boy, do they use it.

I see some inappropriate touching in Dio's past.

one of the things that has never failed to mystify me is the way people take the bible which is a really fine collection of fables and metaphors...stories designed to provide moral guidance...and ignore EVERYTHING it stands for...

choosing instead to believe that its a collection of literal facts...and that everyone elses collections if different cant possibly be real

if you wanna believe that craziness then go ahead...you want believe...then believe it at home or in church....why the desperate ferverish need to push it in schools and the govt and into so much of the lives of other people

Because it's ludicrous?  And since it's ludicrous, the people who believe in it have to keep trying to believe in it, keep trying to get others to believe in it, to maintain  their own "faith."  Its a run away train and if they stop running their gonna get plowed under.

Just a theory.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm saying for the likes of you and Dio on this board.  If you want to bash the people that are trying to inject their holier-than-thou "Christian" attitude into arguments on a message board, I'm right with you there.  The Jerry Falwells and Pat Robertsons, IMO, are going to hell faster than anyone.

However, you're not just mocking those who believe and aren't in your face about it.  You're mocking everyone with faith.  I really don't care - to each his own - but the athiests I know better and those I'm friends with are some of the most laid-back genuine people, because they know in their hearts that all they have to live for is here and now.

Anyway, it's just an observation.  Carry on with your undying anger.

for the record i only mock the nutcases...if you wanna believe that theres a man up in the sky waiting for you by all means rock n roll

lol at you caring about people mocking religion....like you dont mock people on this board every single day...we all do

this is what infuriates people so much

why is mocking people who believe in god any more wrong or different than mocking people who believe in ufo's...people who believe andy reid will go 50/50 run pass one day...those that believe that life doesnt begin at conception...or people who believe being homosexual is not a choice

for people who believe in a god its ok to pretty much mock anything except for their belief in that god...why tho?...are those people so much more important and better than anyone else that they cant be mocked

perhaps if people had more faith in their god and didnt believe he was such an egomaniac...that instead....he is a creator who doesnt sweat what people think of him because his ego can handle it they wouldnt try and shove shtein down others throats

That is still based on a faith and a belief.

And those atheists that bash against organized religion, are just as "in your face" and self righteuosly annoying (not to mention hypocriical) as religious people they crusade against.

The people you describe are better known as agnostics, which neither accept, or deny the existance of a diety.

It may make me obnoxious, but I simply cannot sit quietly by as religious people and religion are treated with kid gloves.  Just because you're superstitious doens't mean you're a good person, an honorable person, etc.

I'm happy to be seen a jerk for pointing that out all day long.

on an individual basis MAYBE...the most in your face atheist could be as bad as the most religious zealout i guess....

but on a large scale its not even close...for one thing atheists are not organinzed in any meaningful way as they have nothing tangible to push onto others.....telling others to not believe in something doesnt really hit home like recruiting people with false hopes of salvation...

and i also dont see atheists blowing up the olympics killing doctors winning elections starting wars and basically trying to take over the world

You make a lot of excellent points here, and I give you credit for even indulging me this much.  You're right that I am quick on the draw when it comes to mocking people for no particular reason.  Ultimately, it is a guilty pleasure that I do with no regard for anyone but myself.  Since religion is already filled with hypocrisy, I usually don't see the need to add to it by getting all serious about my faith on a f___ing message board.

So, like I said... carry on.  I was just making an observation, but you're right that I'm not really one to talk here.

Actually, no.  The people I'm referring to are certain that their is no God.  I know what an agnostic is.
