WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rep. Charlie Norwood is leaving Washington to receive hospice care at home in Georgia, forgoing further treatment for lung cancer that has spread to his liver.

Norwood's spokesman, John Stone, said Wednesday that the seven-term Republican is not yet resigning from Congress but has decided to go home to Augusta, Georgia, to be with his family and "put it in the Lord's hands."

"He has spent three months just sick as a dog and finally just said, 'That's it. I'm going home,"' Stone said. "The goal now is to make him as comfortable as he can be ... for as long as the Lord will let him stay with us, and nobody knows how long that will be."

Stone said Norwood would re-evaluate the situation after returning home and that he was not ruling out further treatment if he feels better. Norwood's congressional office will continue operating "as if he's sitting in the next room," Stone said.

As a continuation of my reply to Geo in the Criminal Reids thread...it's everywhere you go.  Lord this, lord that.  Printed as though there were such a thing as the Lord.  Like we've got it confirmed and we can report on it or something.  Dude has cancer.  His magic god has nothing to do with it.  You won't hear an Atheist droning on about relying on his will in the final hours....but these Christians can't stop evangelizing even as they croak.  And the press loves to publish religious dogma like this. 

To someone who doesn't share the same superstition, or perhaps has none at all, the environment is poisonous with Christian messages.  It's enough to make a guy bitter.

The amount of vitriol you direct at those who choose to have any shred of faith in any part of life is astonishing.

I suppose that makes sense for someone whose faith is rooted in the knowledge that life has no meaning at all.  Still, I have to wonder why you get so amped up about politics or wars or global warming.  If none of this matters at all, and if we're just a random occurrence of nature gone wrong, then why do you care?

Sit back, smoke a bowl of high-quality MJ, and relax.  It'll all be over before you know it.
