I remember that nutcase since76 or something like that.  He was super anti abortion.  I told him fetuses were just tumors.   :-D he lost his shtein.  Emailed me that he was going to track me down and kill me.  I told him "Wouldn't you be commiting a super late term abortion if you did that?"

Adblock Plus is Launching an Ad Exchange

QuoteEyeo GmbH, the company behind the popular online ad blocking software Adblock Plus, said on Tuesday it is launching an online advertising service to help marketers place "acceptable" ads before users with ad blocking technology turned on.

Eyeo is joining with ad tech firm ComboTag to create an automated ad marketplace, often referred to as an ad exchange, the companies said. Publishers can sign up for the marketplace, called the "Acceptable Ads Platform," and use it to sell and place ad space on their webpages.

"Acceptable ads" are allowed to pass through Adblock Plus's filters by default, provided they aren't too intrusive or disruptive to users, it said.

If filtering out nuisance and malware ads were simple we wouldn't have ever needed adblock in the first place.

So the company who makes software to block ads is basically going to only block ads from companies that don't pay them?  It's a free program, so I guess if you don't like the results you can uninstall and it's not like you're out any money.  As long as they keep it to simple ads that don't suck up a large chunk of the screen or slow down load times, I guess that's still cool.  I don't mind ads, I just hate the large, clunky ones.

I don't want Comcast shaking down Netflix to keep it from being throttled, and I don't want some browser extension shaking down companies that are already doing the best they can in an awful environment. I'm not going to trust them to not take a little extra cash to overlook a few highjacking redirects.

I'll just switch extensions and whitelist all the sites I visit that already that go with the least zesty ads available.

A Florida sinkhole is leaking radioactive water

QuoteMULBERRY, Fla. - A Florida company kept a dangerous secret from the public for three weeks: A massive sinkhole had leaked at least 215 million gallons of radioactive water into an aquifer.

Mosaic, a phosphate mining company, said workers first noticed the sinkhole at its New Wales facility in Mulberry, Florida, around the end of August, but didn't tell anyone because they found "no risk to the public."

And the sinkhole seems to be draining into an aquifer that provides drinking water to millions of people. It also feeds water into springs used for recreational activities.

The water has a radioactive material known as phosphogypsum, a byproduct from using phosphate to create fertilizer. Phosphogypsum is placed into stacks and maintained to limit the amount radioactive material leaking into the air.

Yahoo Admits 500 Million Hit In 2014 Breach -- Blames Foreign Spies

QuoteYahoo has admitted to a hack in 2014 that left data of 500 million users exposed. The company also blamed an unnamed nation state for the hack.

Hints of an epic breach came in summer, when a dark web dealer called Peace offered 200 million usernames and passwords of Yahoo users on a Tor-based market called The Real Deal, as reported by Vice Motherboard. Rumours then emerged Yahoo was ready to admit the breach, but it's now confirmed the hack was even bigger than first indicated.

In other news, people are still using Yahoo for some damn reason.
