Guest list for Tuesday night's social dinner at the White House in honor of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, as released by the White House.

Some weird guests I noticed:
QuoteThomas Glavine, major league baseball pitcher, and Christine Glavine (wife).
Samuel Palmisano, chairman, president and CEO of IBM Corp., and Missy Palmisano (wife).
It's called rich white people who will donate to the republican party.

I used to wear a shirt that said "I shot Tupac". Unbelievable how many people would get really upset by it.

I'd rock that one in public.

Father Demon

You might remember my grandfather from this picture I posted back in March.  He passed away today four months short of his 93rd birthday.

A few years ago, he started drinking some of my beers with me, and last year told me that he never drank beer until he started drinking a couple here and there with me.  He never had a taste for it after a lifelong Manhattan habit, but for some reason they started tasting good.  Last week, I went over to visit him as he lay in his bed, basically to say good bye to him.  While we were there, he used up most of his strength drinking one more beer with me as we talked about his life, my life, and the future lives of my kids.  He couldn't hold the beer, so his wife would "feed" him his beer through a large medicine dropper, but he finished about half of an 8 ounce mini bottle.  Again, he told me about how he only drank beer because of the time we started spending together a few years ago.  It meant a lot to me, and I hope to him, to share that last beer with him.  As it turned out, it was the last time I saw him conscience.  When I visited him last night, he was sleeping and fighting for breath the whole time, and I knew it was the end.  And, because of my beer project, I'll always remember that beer -- it was a Grolsch, which I hadn't had yet, and is now 172 on my list.

I'm not looking for sympathy or pity from anyone.  Hell, the old man lived 92 great years.  I just thought it was a cool story to share.
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.

I'll still say sorry for your loss Demon, awesome life he had to have with 92 years.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I wish I could of saw the man that raised me (my grandfather) before he went. Your a lucky guy. The fact you got to share one last beer with him is unbelievable. Sorry for the loss.

He looked like the Macdaddy on those wheels

Any man who is drinking a beer on his death bed through a goddamned medicine dropper.. well, need I say more?

Someone here has good blood pumping through them.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

And your wife is still coming with me FF. What'd you have to go through to find that picture anyway? EMB Search engine?
