If you have any doubt as to the ghettoness of ESL, just watch National Lampoon's Vacation.  Actually, they got off quite lucky seeing that they lived and all.  But ESL is one of the most dangerous cities in the country.  It's one of the few places I've ever been where I truly felt uncomfortable and unsafe.

I don't think these practices are exclusive to HP, although the page count thing is amusing.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.
