Florida health officials confirm local Zika transmission

Four individuals in Miami-Dade and Broward counties have been infected with the Zika virus by local mosquitoes, Florida health officials said Friday.

These are the first known cases of the virus being transmitted by mosquitoes in the continental United States.
"While no mosquitoes trapped tested positive for the Zika virus, the department believes these cases were likely transmitted through infected mosquitoes in this area," according to a statement from the Florida Department of Health.

I had to get prescription glasses yesterday after a lifetime of 20/15 & 20/20 vision.  Thankfully they're for reading only but I was scared shteinless because members of my family have a history with glaucoma and this has come up on me pretty rapidly over the last couple of years.  All clear and no sign of trouble from cataracts or anything else.

Thanks to health insurance too because the glasses were $625 and I only paid $115.  They would have been cheaper but I got the transitions coating since I'm outside so much plus to alleviate computer glare.

I just put our cat of 13 years down.  He was a right bastich.  As such, I had a spot in my heart for him and though I won't miss him, I'll miss him.

I've got an astigmatism but use contacts - just had to get my prescription bumped up. People talk about how great lasik is but I'm super weirded out by being away while some dude cuts my eyes open.

I know a guy who just got a new job.  He helps settle new refugees.  Gave him a couple pieces of furniture I didn't need.  On wednesday, he delivered a sleeper-loveseat and chair to a family of four newly arrived refugees from Congo.

Imagine that.  You flee Congo and end up in farging Baltimore.

What a world.

I have a sectional couch I'm replacing in the next month or so if he's interested....it needs a steam wash but is structurally in very good shape...was going to give it to habitat for humanity but it's his if he can use it
