How is this a story anyone could legitimately get worked up about?

Meanwhile, Harvard Study: Rents No Longer 'Affordable' for Most Americans

QuoteAs the number of renters grows, competition for rental space pushes the costs increasingly higher, but wages, in many cases, have headed in the opposite direction.

In Riverside County, Calif., median annual rental costs have increased $756 during the past six years, but the median household income has fallen in each of those years, Congressman Mark Takano wrote in a rental report earlier this year.

In the City of Riverside, he added, 51 percent of households have been spending more than half their income on rent since before the recession hit in 2007, but their wages remain below pre-recession levels.

Windshield chips are the devil.

Speaking of old trucks...an old f150 pulls up at the pump next to me the other day. The entire floorboard was rusted out. Dude had a cut down pallet acting as his floorboard

Diomedes

I work with people like that.

Mine is a '12 though, so I've got power windows and AC.

Rome

I just spent 675 on something called an immobilizer that burned out and several frayed wires that caused the burnout (and subsequent frozen car that was not starting at all).  I have another 1100 bucks in repairs on this car to go (really only about 600 but that was the dealer's estimate - lol) but the car only has 93,000 miles on it, so it's worth it to me.  That car is going to be my kid's first in a couple of years, so it's getting the royal treatment this weekend.

QuoteAn immobiliser or immobilizer is an electronic security device fitted to an automobile that prevents the engine from running unless the correct key (or other token) is present. This prevents the car from being "hot wired" after entry has been achieved.

I knew what it was.  Just had no clue how to get to it or how to re-wire the thing.  I can do a lot of shtein on cars but when scanners are required, that's when I call the dealer.  You pay out the ass but it gets done.

PS: They charge 105/hour for labor.  Should have been a farging grease monkey.

Diomedes

Yeah, the tech is not getting even a third of that.

Happy Birthday to our boy Rome.

We pitched in to have Sarah Palin send you a happy birthday selfie. Did you get it?

Sgt PSN

I will not be sad ditching tornado heaven down here.

I'll never forget tornado seasons, man. When we first moved from PA to Alabama (Ft Rucker) we had seven of them touch down in the area one day. I was scared shteinless from the sirens and teachers screaming for us to get to the hallway.

Moved to Kansas after that and it was worse. Luckily the on base housing had a great closet that was under a stairwell. My mom, my kid brother and I went to the store one night. A storm popped up and within minutes it was hell on earth. We made it home as soon as they issued the warnings and the sirens went off and the military police were driving around telling people to seek shelter immediately.

farg all that shtein.
