My friend is getting into beekeeping.  Very cool stuff.
I've been tinkering with the idea of it.  We're not allowed to have chickens or any other form of farm animals, but bees are a natural thing, not an animal.

Live cam in an eagles nest. A momma and three babies in there now.

Looks like she has a dead fish she is about to go to town on and feed the kids

on the job site I'm at now....up in the back end of weems creek in Annapolis...there are more birds fishing and living than I've ever seen in the Annapolis area.

there are literally always osprey in the sky..and watching one pull up hover and sight his prey, then dive into the water, waddle around as he secures the fish in his talons, and then beat like hell to take back off--they do a little shimmy just after they make flight to shed the water, it's very cute--is a daily highlight.
there's a bald eagle, a couple hawks (don't know what kind--not red tail, as their tail is kind of checkered, not red in color); geese, mallards, great blue heron, common loons, turkey vultures, sea gulls (not many of these), cormorants (double crested, I think), crows, and others I don't know.

basically every day is like some kind of bird watcher's wet dream

Very cool to be able to work in a place with the uplifting elements of nature, certainly better than some office cubicle under fluorescent lights, forced air, office politics and 8 hours staring at some computer screen. Unless it is cold and raining and shtein, then give me the cubicle.

Sgt PSN

I'll take cold and rain over a cubicle every day of the week.  Cubicles are prison cells without all the luxuries.

Diomedes

I prefer cold to hot any day.

And regardless the temp...I don't work in the rain.

Me too.  You can always add more layers to deal with the cold, but when it's hot, you can only take off so much before you're breaking the law.

You wanna work with a wet ass, go for it champ.  I'll stay home and get a higher rate for it.

It's not so much wanting to work in the rain, but having to.  Still, as long as I've got my gortex, it typically doesn't bother me much.

Diomedes

It's just not safe to work in rain.  If I get injured because shtein is slick, that's on me..I should've packed it in for the day.

Yeah, but that's a major difference between your job and mine.  I assume you're self insured, where the gov't picks up my tab.  And regardless of where or how I get injured, my medical bills are paid 100% and I continue to receive my normal paycheck regardless of how much time I have to miss or how limited I am in my abilities even when I do return to work.

You on the other hand are at home on the couch until you can perform at least the majority of tasks that would be required of you.  Not to mention the adverse affect an injury would have on your errand running abilities.  Take away your errands, might as well take away oxygen, weed and gin, right?  Actually, I guess weed and gin probably make up a large portion of your errand list.
