anybody have experience with mice...we got a mouse rummaging thru the pantry....is the best way to get him a simple hardware store trap?

Just so you know, chances are you have more than one mouse.  So if/when you trap one, re-bait the trap and put it back out and leave it there for a couple days just to be safe.  Also, try and find out where it's coming in if you can.  I had some get into a corner cabinet in my kitchen a few months back....they tore up a couple boxes of mac n cheese and rice.  Turns out whoever installed these cabinets did a pretty poor job and left some open gaps between the cabinet and the wall that they were able to fit through easily (they can fit through spaces like half the size of their body).  So once I was sure I had gotten all of them (4 total) I used some spackle and sealed up the gap.  Haven't seen them since.

mine are in a laundry room pantry area thats right up against the garage...i looked in the pantry and saw no place they could come thru....my guess is they might be coming in thru the dryer vent or some shtein...which you cant really block

what did you bait your trap with?

Peanut Butter.  Not only do the mice love it, but it actually sticks to the trap so the mice can't miraculously get at it without setting off the trap.  Word to the wise though......put the peanut butter on first before setting the trap.  It's a lot less painful.

Also, check your vent hose for holes just to be safe.  But you probably won't see where the are coming in just looking around.  Follow the poop and hopefully you'll be able to find where they are coming in.  Also, check the seals and and everything on the door coming in from the garage.  If there's even the smallest gap then they'll be able to squeeze through.

I actually did it.  I was like 25 and got a couple mice in my place.  First time I had dealt with them or traps.  So I set the trap and realized I forgot to bait it.  Took a finger full of pb and went to place it on the trap and SNAP!  Farging thing hurt.  I'm just glad I didn't have rats.

lol...i can see forgetting to do the pb first but how the hell would you not know that baiting a set trap would bang you

to this day ive never set a mouse trap but i know how it works...and i think i was six when i saw my first tom and jerry episode

Yeah, it was pretty farging dumb.  I was just in a hurry to get those things set so I could get rid of them.  I had previously attempted to use a non-kill trap that failed miserably, but with a more hilarious outcome.  So yeah, I was anxious and in a hurry and didn't really think that one through.

Get the decon hockey puck ones.  They work like a champ.  Bait them with peanut butter and twist to set them.  The mouse goes into a hole on the side looking for the peanut butter.  I think thats why they work so good is because mice like to squeeze through things to find food.  There is an indicator window that turns from green to red to let you know when a mouse is caught.

Those work great, i also use the DCON pellets that are on a platter setup in the garage.  I've only had one, but he ate the pellet and made it about 10 feet before stopping.  Just want to make sure you keep an eye and nose out.

I recommend chasing them around with one of these

I wouldn't use the pellets inside a finished room....good luck finding it or have fun ripping out the drywall/plaster to get the carcass

Glue trap with a couple of peanuts on it. Easy peasy.

I don't like glue traps.  1.  Mice can sometimes chew through the trap and free themselves.  2.  I used them once and was really put off by it.  Caught a mouse on it and the mouse had dislocated each of it's legs trying to get free.....and it was still alive.  Very inhumane imo.  I don't have a problem with killing them because it's really the only way you can get rid of them, but I didn't like the fact that this animal suffered for at least a few hours on this trap before I put him out of his misery with a hammer.  At least with traditional traps they go fairly quickly.
