Anyone 40 years old or younger better not be planning on receiving any SS benefits.   Just look at the numbers for proof of that.  He's right, guys.

I'm not counting on getting any Social Security, and I don't resent paying it out either.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I agree with this.

PS: I'm only 42, so I don't plan on getting it either.  I'm going out fat, drunk, in debt and with a gun in my mouth.

I only resent it because of how little of my social security taxes actually get in the pockets of those who actually need it.

1.  People who don't need it should be cut off.  Immediately.  You're a rich old bastich?  No Social Security for you.  (Hopefully, I'll be one of these people anyway.)

2.  Raise the age decisively in the not-so-long-term.  The program was designed for OLD people.  Now people are living 10 years more on average than they were.

After 1 and 2 are actually done, we'll talk about what's next.

I think we should just take everyone over 80 and put them in ovens

I wish I could spend money I don't have like the gov't does.

Also, went to a wedding in Kirkville, MO yesterday.  Small town of about 15k in population.  Trying to find a radio station to listen to and on the FM dial, only 7 radio stations came in clearly.  3 of them were religious programming, 1 was a christian country station and the other 3 were regular country.

I agree with both of these points.

I'm all for a wholesale audit of current recipients, too.  There's a ton of waste.  But how do you deteremine who deserves it, and who doesn't?  How do you codify that into a good law?

I can see the outcry when the government creates a "who really needs the money" bureau.

PoopyfaceMcGee

Naturally, there will be an outcry.  It's gotten to the point where that is unavoidable.

Also, the cap on the social security tax is hilarious.

Father Demon

As much as I enjoy the "raise" I get when I reach the cap, this is 100% correct.  The people that earn the least amount of money fund the system at a higher percentage of total income.  Then the rich bastiches, who don't necessarily need the SS money, take it.
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.
