Here are three possibilities for what's going on:

1) All the stuff about the Eagles and Bentley was BS from the start.  One or two guys went with it, then the other reporters didn't want to be left out.

2) There was a tenative agreement before the new deal got done, once the new deal got done and the cap went up, Bentley asked for significantly more and the Eagles wouldn't move up.

3) There is a real concern that somebody might get the smack down for tampering, so this is all just interference to suggest there weren't any discussions beforehand.
