i don't like hte Schobel move based on the fact that he's not a good blocker, you need that from a backup TE

Well, I read Reuben Frank's article yesterday and he said that Schobel was a good blocker. And I trust Frank because he's the best beat writer for the Birds. But it doesn conflict with what the scouting reports say.

I guess we'll have to see.

i think like many on this board (RJS and others) it's assumed that he's a good blocker because they are bringing him in as the 2nd TE.  i think Reuben does a good job too, but he may be making the same assumptions as we did at first.  i guess we'll see.

I agree with that.  If this Walker garbage turns out to be true... then the move is even better because he'll definitely be pushing either McMullen or McCants off the roster, which at that point would be considered a depth upgrade.

Apparently, Schobel is drawing a lot of comparisons to Chad Lewis from the Eagles front office.  Both are very big men and are able and good receivers.  It took Chad many years to become an adequate blocker, but he became serviceable.

Anyway, what do we know until we see him screw up his first block in an Eagles uniform?  He's a large man and he at worst patches a need on the Eagles roster.  Plus, he has 2 more career TD's than Randle El.  Ha!

somebody obviously likes large men.

I'm sick of the Eagles offense running like it's undersized.

ice grillin you

schobel is not a blocker why would the eagles get a bliocking TE when they dont run...chad lewis is a very good comparison and thats the exact role he will fill...its a real solid signing...the class is weak but imo schobel was one of if not the best FA TE available...dont sleep on this move

One very good thing I'll say about Finneran is that the Falcons used him a lot ot keep the chains moving.  I can't tell you how many drives he kept going for ATL by going up an snagging a errant Vick pass for a 1st down.  S

I remember that and when watching a Falcons game (for the purpose of pointing and laughing at Vick), I would always wonder the same thing. How in the hell was Finneran SO BAD here and then could keep drives going there?

eh...he was a rookie here. undrafted i beleive. it's not like many players shined on the 1999 eagles. he had that one play where he bounced it off his shoulder and they lost to cardinals and never did anything after that before he was cut in midseason.

QuoteRocky Bernard
An unheralded star on the Seahawks defense, he had 8½ sacks in 2005. The 6-3, 290-pound defensive tackle is solid against the run and a strong pass-rushing presence inside.
