ice grillin you

thats a cop out by the eagles...yes with a new deal everyone gets extra money to play with but the eagles get that same money plus what they had originally...so theres no reason they shouldnt still go out and get him

That's what I'm sayin'. If another team ala JAX tries to throw a deal at him that is equal to what the Eagles would've given him w/o a CBA then the Eagles just use some more money and up the offer to offset the raise in the cap.

I think that maybe they are looking at both of them. Putting Bentley at LG and Mawae at C.

I get that... but with more teams jumping into the fray... including the teams that didn't manage their cap well enough to afford him w/o a new CBA... Bentley has the option to generate a bidding war and possibly price himself out of the Eagles' range.

how can he price himself out of the eagles range and not everyone elses...the eagles have essentially as much money as anyone...now if it was a middle of the road FA who was being grossly overpaid i could understand getting out...but we are talking about the best guy by far at his position...and young to boot...if the eagles dont get him its because they are cheap....period

Unless he prefers to sign elsewhere.  That happens, IGY.

Some players simply prefer to play near their hometown or for a specific franchise for whatever reason.

Money isn't the be-all, end-all of everything especially if the numbers are close.

It's not about how much money the Eagles have... it's about how much they were spending on him.  Look bottom line is they (allegedly) had him when FA was supposed to start.  Now... other teams can get in, with an extra $10 mil a piece and all of a sudden the Eagles have to outbid everyone for a guy they would have already been fitting for a jersey had there been no FA delays.  You can't tell me that you don't think that penalizes the Eagles.  Also, because we'd have to outbid everyone for Bentley and give him more money, maybe that takes us out of the race or less of a player for another FA or two we were targeting because there's less money in the pot.

Has nothing to do with the Eagles being cheap or not.  It's about being penalized for doing what they were supposed to cap-wise at the expense of those who totally disregared it for years.

I won'e ven get into how dumb the whole "Eagles are cheap" thing is.  God knows how many times that myth has been proven wrong.

nobody's being penalized...they all play under the same rules.
if the eagles really want bentley, they shouldn't allow themselves to be outbid.  if they do, it's because they'd rather go the cheap route.....again.

The only way I don't see him coming here is if Cleveland enters the bidding. He is from Cleveland and I think he'd take a little less to go home and play. But they have Jeff Faine as their C so I don't know if they'd be looking for another guy.

or because they would rather obtain multiple FA's rather than blow the load on one.

so you rather have a couple lesser players than the best player at his position...not me...and bently will not want so much that it will take up all the eagles cap money...they are going to have a boatload of cash

again if its david givens then maybe i dont get in a bidding war...but bently is the best player at his position in the entire league...and they have a massive need at that position and the money to fill it...there is no excuse not to get him...no matter how much you FO lackeys try and spin it

Question(s)... could the Skins afford Bentley if they wanted to with no CBA and without purging their entire team as of March 3rd?  Will they be able to with a new CBA and $10 million extra?

Even if they were not outbid... they're still penalized because they would have had to spend more money than they would have had to 5 days ago.
