lets be honest...you can bust the shtein out of nascar all day long, but if I was on a business trip down in Florida, Tennessee or wherever and someone said I have free tickets for the infield....no question I would go just to be in the middle of a large crowd like that.

my chances of going where I had to pay would be slim to none.

i've never paid to attend a race.  can't imagine why anyone who actually lives here would.  tickets are everywhere especially if you frequent bars like i do.

whatever, though.  i only bumped this thread to be a fleshpop.

Diomedes

how do you manage to go to bars so much given a.) you have children and b.) you have very little money

I'm of the try anything once school of thought myself and while I'm not interested in the race per se, as a party it's a shteinload of fun.  Not sitting in the seats but in the infield, I mean.

It's a shame that people aren't more open minded about life.   Some of the best times I've ever had involved plans with no expectations about the outcome.

see i know exactly how it would end up...1) because i hate crowds 2) because i hate racing 3) because i hate the people who like racing 4) because i hate cars

i guess im old but unless you are 21 still i dont get the attraction of a mardi gras or preakness or anywhere that has wall to wall people being douchebags...mix in hideous fat white people loud as farg cars and a million rebel flags and you have the makings of a catastrophe
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Diomedes

Hey now.  There's nothing wrong with loud as farg cars.  Bowling and loud as farg cars = all good.

yup, everyone thinks it's still the 70s and 80s where everything is from a red state.  There's tracks in those rednecky areas of the Poconos, Dover, Michigan, New Hampshire, Sonoma and Watkins Glen.  Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon (9 combined championships between them) are from California.  Carl Edwards and Jamie McMurray are from MA Missouri.  And unlike most pro sports, these guys usually don't hold back and give politically correct cliches if they just lost several hundred thousands dollars in a wreck because someone wasn't paying attention.  There's no way I'll watch a whole race, but I might check out the first couple laps, the last 5 or so and maybe some in between.  I started following it in '98 because all the Philly teams sucked and my co-workers were into it, but now that all the teams are good again (and my MA office job has maybe 2 fans), it's back to being really low on the sports priority list.

btw if you hear sobbing rednecks today, it was 10 years ago that Earnhardt was killed at Daytona

smeags

nascar is not that redneck anymore, in fact it has gotten quite corporate over the last few years with plenty of races and races well above the mason dixon line. no doubt the southern races would bring out more rebel flags and all but i would only go to pocono or maybe dover and only if it was for free just for the party in the infield. i wouldnt care about the race, in fact knowing me i'd be more then likely be puking and trying to drink myself straight during it.

there's one racer i check on, martin truex jr. he's not that good but he's an avid eagles fan.

Amazing story....a kid that just turned 20 yesterday, 2nd Cup race ever, racing full-time in the "AAA" Nationwide instead but filling in for a Wood Bros. team that hasn't won in a decade and can't afford a full-time team anymore....wins the freakin Daytona 500

Rome

Just got back from the race.   Had seats in the VIP section right in front of Victory Lane and it was amazing.
