That contract is kind of cheap for Bernard.  I'm kind of surprised the Eagles didn't get involved.

Runyan said he'd take less to stay in Philly, if the deal was fair.  Bernard probably could've gotten more on the open market, but I'm assuming he feels like Runyan.
Anyone but Reid.

The BIGSTUD

Yes, but if someone blows away Runyan with an offer, he's outta here.

As would've Bernard.

or maybe the Eagles just didnt want Rocky Bernard.  I read an interesting take on Bernard in TSN the other week... basically saying he was a flash in the pan and was a "follower" type who couldnt be counted on to lead a dline.   Different take then what everyone else says.  I was a bit surprised by it considering all the hype.  It is in the realm of possibility that the Eagles had the same view as the TSN staffer.

The BIGSTUD

That's possible, but it seems as they have an issue with every player out there.

They didn't want Peterson, Bernard, Givens, Ayodele, Pickett, Hutchinson, etc.

But they seem to like a 35 year old aging DT in Buckner.

Obviously, they didn't want Rocky Bernard.  But, with a line already containing Jevon Kearse and Darren Howard, wouldn't a "follower" who is actually capable of making plays be better than Rayburn and Hollis?

Neither of those guys could sniff 8 1/2 sacks.

I didn't think Rocky Bernard was the best option.  I wanted Tripplett, who did end up getting a bigger deal than Rocky.  But now the only viable FA option is Pickett, and the Eagles are showing no interest... then, if Bunkley and Ngata are both gone by #14?  Blammo.

If # of sacks is a big deal in comparing Bernard to the Eagles DT's.. then why would you want Tripplett over Bernard?  Bernard has 18 sacks compared to Trippletts 4.

The BIGSTUD

I'm getting the feeling they may not even address DT at all.

I have a hunch they take OG in the first round or OT.

The Eagles never make the expected pick. We'll all expect Ngata or Bunkley and we'll get Brian Riverstein from BYU - OG.  8)

# of sacks is one of many factors.

I wanted Tripplett over Bernard, because he looked like a more regularly disruptive interior DL during the games I watched.  Apparently, the Buffalo Bills agree with me, for whatever reason.
