Bingo. Plus they don't have the same degenerative health problems that purebreds have and tend to be more loyal. And uglier. Ugly dogs rule.

When I first got my driver's license, I went to the pound to get a dog for my parents for Christmas.  Not sure why I thought they'd want one.  Anyway, I went in and picked out a nice, calm older dog that I thought they'd like.  The staff told me to fill out some paperwork while they got the dog ready.

A few minutes later they brought out this other shepherd-mix puppy who started running round like a maniac, and they wished me luck.  I didn't have the heart to send him back, so he became the present.  My parents were horrified, and wondered why I got them a crazy, ugly dog for Christmas.  But he was an awesome dog, and was a big part of the family for over ten years.  Cancer ended up getting him, but he was a great, great dog.
