You are smoking crack if you think his argument holds any water at all.
Eaglefan would cry about how the Skins were sending themselves to cap hell because of spending.
Now he says they will miss out on FA because they don't have any money to spend.
If you don't see that as ironic, you are a bigger moron than I thought.

Let me say this slowly for you...

because

the

skins

have

spent

so

much

in

past

years,

they

now

have

very

little

cap

space,

which

is

funny

but

not

ironic.

not

at

all.

Zanshin

That's not ironic at all.  The position you're in now, is because of the practices of the past...it's cause and effect.

You people really bought into the whole cap hell thing.

Not every team has an owner who routinely gives fellatio to Tagliabue.

Besides, pushing the cap hard year after year has gotten the Skins.... what?  One playoff win?

Oh, and the two guys responsible for that win are now, respectively, cut and should be in jail.

Great work.

QuoteES is a community. It's not a chalkboard in a men's rest room where patrons can write obscene thoughts or talk over others. It's a discussion forum where a lot of people have great thoughts and post them, and you should offer your thoughts in such threads where they exist. You should spend a few minutes looking over the board before posting anything new. If you don't have time, then, just reply within threads you read and understand in your busy schedule others may be starting the threads of interest to you already and you'll see it when you have more time or get lucky.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

An Ode to Extremeskins

brings a tear to my eye...

QuoteConfession: in my world at that time, I was the leading authority on the Washington taterskins. My entire extended group of NFL-lovin' friends, family and colleagues all said so. God's honest truth is to that point in my life I had never run across another human who could stick with me once we really got into it—from taterskins history to their current roster to their positional needs, etc. No, despite what you're thinking, it wasn't hubris on my part; I had simply had never met anyone as passionate or borderline obsessed about my team as I.

But here ... here there were a few dudes that got my attention. So naturally, I left.

I mean, it couldn't be, right? Not on some chatroom on the internet.

A few days later I came back. Quietly. Just to verify for myself that what I thought I'd seen was an anomaly; a mirage.

I gotta tell ya, it was a serious ego hit. Found myself reading along and realizing that while I might have known my Skins **** pretty good, there were many others out there who were every bit as schooled in the big picture as I was, but were also far more up-to-the-minute on the details ... and that many of them were thinking through and discussing certain aspects about the team in a manner I'd never had need, or the opportunity, to explore. It was humbling.

I quickly discovered it was something else too, though. A challenge. Here, perhaps, was something I could use to my advantage—a way to raise my game. A way I could learn, in the privacy of my own den/office, and take that knowledge out into the world ... where naturally I would pass it off as my own.

Hey, if I can't go to jail for it, I'm not above stealin' ****.

But a strange thing happened. In those first few heady days of discovery, when I was just about to register to this "Extremeskins Message Board" (which ran in the neighborhood of 200 members at the time), in order to dip my toes in the water and test myself against some of these other serious taterskins fans ... I hesitated.

Why? Because I watched as people who brought even semi-weak arguments, or even semi-faulty knowledge, or even just plain semi-stupidity to the board, were exposed by the group. Quickly and efficiently. Not with name-calling or rudeness, mind you, but with informed, articulate, concise and witheringly on-point counter-arguments that left the unsuspecting semi-offender a smoking pile of goo.

While the real impact of the new CBA will be seen in a few days, your fans are also buying into the fallacy that your team will not have to make a hell of a lot of moves just to get at a comfortable cap level. It's not like actuarial leprechauns waved a magic rod over taterskins Park & absolved the Skins of their cap sins. They'll end up with some space but there will be sacrifices & I highly doubt that they are going to have the coin to go crazy in FA.

In order to get to where your team is (which is still over), please consider:

1) They released Lavar Arrington, one of the most popular players on the roster. Regardless of the why's of his departure, his defection has helped your cap situation.

2) Have to release about 6-8 players. So far the ones that I know of are Bowen, Noble, Harris & Raymer. While some are easily expendable & would have been released anyway, some are going to eat into your depth. What happens if you can't find a trade for Ramsey?

3) They have 13 UFA/RFA's that still need to be signed. How much of your newfound cap will be needed to sign the ones you want? How will they replace the ones you can't sign?

While some roster turnover is a fact life, estimates show that your team may lose about 15+ players that are going to need to be replaced via FA & draft. Do they have enough draft picks & cash to do that in FA? If they go balls out for a guy like Abraham, who'll eat up a lot of the cash & cost a pick, how are the other areas addressed?

I won't pretend to be an expert but you need to admit it's not going to be all daisies & chardonnay during the next few days. It may be more like ball gags & studded butt plugs.

What laughter!!

QuoteTHE NUMBERS GAME
Just as the CBA has been reconfigured, so have the salary-cap numbers for the teams at the start of free agency. But the extension means that only four teams -- the Washington taterskins, the Indianapolis Colts, the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs -- will have to restructure contracts and/or release players to get under the cap.

The taterskins are about $7 million over the cap, the Colts about $5 million, the Raiders about $4 million and the Chiefs about $2.5 million.

But there are some teams that could practically horde the free-agent market. With the CBA extension, the Minnesota Vikings are now $31.5 million under the salary cap, the Green Bay Packers are $30 million under the salary cap, the Arizona Cardinals are $26.5 million under the salary cap and the Cleveland Browns are $24.5 million under the salary cap.

Gentlemen, start your checkbooks.

You may be right, as what we are able to put together from the media has been highly inconsistent, ranging from being over by $7M to being under by $19M.

Only the next few days will reveal the truth.

I find it funny some are trying to hold on to the idea that the skins are in "cap hell".  The skins are now out of it.  The skins restructured 12 contracts.  From my understanding those contracts were contingent on the new CBA NOT getting signed.  Now that the CBA is not signed the skins will now start the restructuring processs again.  The skins do a good job just getting under the cap every year.  If the skins start to sign real talent they will be very good because they know how to handle the cap.  Since gibbs came aboard the skins have signed some talent.

The skins will be under the cap  somewhere in the range of 15 million to 20 million.
