cover up is open to interpretation...i suspect he did tho

however theres no doubt he was grossly and willifully ignorant about it and contributed to additonal victims being abused

It is currently open to interpretation, yes.

SunMo

not really.  i know it hurts to admit it, but Joe isn't the saint that they want you to believe.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

The one thing that would be different is that he wouldn't be actively coaching, so a lot of the shenanigans that occurred during the week before his firing obviously wouldn't have occurred.

It would still have tarnished his image greatly, but it may not have been quite as glaring.

PoopyfaceMcGee

I don't believe him to be anything of the sort. But I do believe that he did more with the level of information he had than others have done in similar situations, well beyond his legal obligation and further into "moral" territory than you think.

I also think anything he did or didn't do based on his awareness is not nearly the worst thing he, you, or I has done in any of our lives. But again, I'm speculating too. Just looking forward to seeing what comes out in court.

the only way he is anything less than despicable is if ginger is lying and didnt tell him about the rape...other than that having happened hes a disgraceful coward who did nothing that night...and did the absolute minimum the next day...and in the years that followed he still catered to the monster

then you also have to believe that he had never heard of the 99 incident or just general talk about sandusky...which would be kind of hard to believe in a small community like that

but to be fair those things could be overlooked...however when you add on top of whatever else he knew an eyewitness real time account of a child rape being reported directly to him then his immediate reaction and his subsequent behavior towards sandusky and kids in the years that followed are nothign short of horrendous

also joe isnt "others"...he was the king of the castle up there he was essentially god and because of that  should be held to a higher standard than what me or you would do

I love that Joe was supposed to run to the police with nothing more then a story. He told the people he was supposed to tell with the lack of evidence that he had. The people that were supposed to investigate, didn't.

Or they did and covered it up.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

SunMo

you're right, he has no culpability in any of this

You love straw men, don't you? School of IGY Hyperbolic shtein I guess

I just don't go right from no blame at all to he's basically a child molester as some (IGY) are saying.

how else can your statement be interpreted?  you are saying he did nothing wrong?

so either A)  you don't understand what you are actually saying or B) you're just trying to get people react to you

lol so there's absolutely no shade of grey? Either he's basically a child molester or he did nothing at all wrong?

Come on, dude. You can't be that dense.

Child molestation charges don't go away, even if there's nothing to back them up. Imagine if they were false, and Paterno went to the police based on one story from somebody who came to him the next day. How many lives does that ruin? Not just Paterno's, and sandusky's....but everyone who was working for 2nd mile, every kid who benefited from 2nd mile, the kids that played football for Penn State at the time who would no doubt be playing for a damaged program if that happened, etc.

Which is why, in my mind, while Paterno might not have done the best thing (especially in hindsight), he did what was probably the best course of action to take at the time.

My biggest grievance with him is why he didn't follow up with the investigation. It seems like to me he told the people he thought he should tell, and then assumed everything was okay. I guess you can chalk that up to old man ignorance but I'd like to think he could have at least said "hey, so uhh...whats going on with this child farging thing?"
