The Shawshank Redemption is IMO the best film to come out in the 90's.  That it lost to Forrest Gump is inexcusable.
I think Shawshank is one of the greatest films of all time, second (IMO) only to Casablanca.
Schindler's List not being on there is a travesty.

And let's not forget, Army of Darkness came out in the 90's.
Anyone but Reid.

Well said.  'Shawshank' was actually a complete failure in the box office despite being widely distributed, which is one of the biggest reasons it didn't stand a chance in the Oscar race.

I would put 'The Usual Suspects' in the running also.

i like usual suspects, a lot. but basically the usual suspects is a good movie with a great ending.

And if we're discussing action films, Commando clearly takes the cake.
After all, in an action film, all we really want to see is violence, memorable one-liners and titties.
Commando didn't have even the thinnest trace of a plot;  hell, most of the action sequences didn't make any sense.
Anyone but Reid.

Man was that a great year for movies.  Shawshank, Gump and Suspects was a helluva lineup for best picture.
Compare that to the years Titanic or the brown movie (English Patient) won.  God :puke
Anyone but Reid.

Yeah, but you gotta give credit to a movie where a guy throws a saw blade through a guy's head.

:-D Especially since it was so clearly a wax mannequin.  The picture of the sawn off head being clear skin toned plastic is one of the funniest scenes in movie history.

That coupled with Bennett being electrocuted by a transformer, falling back off and punching Matrix in the face.  Haven't seen humor like that since the Stooges.
Anyone but Reid.

Nah, just an exception to the rule.  Never seen Glengarry Glen Ross, or Malice.  Both excellent films with a Baldwin.
Anyone but Reid.

Rudy was on last night, and out of the billion times I've caught a piece of it, last night was the 1st time I realized Vince Vaughn was in it.

That movie might have been even better with Harrison Ford playing Jack, though.
