Believe I heard on the radio that Sean Payton is going to NO.

That is good for the Birds. He always killed them when he was the NYG & DAL OC.

Just saw on ESPN news (John Clayton) that he's (Payton) officially accepted the job.

He's gonna have several players on his team that are older than him.  That's got to be a bit awkward.

34 frickin' years old.  Damn.  Is that the youngest HC ever?  I remember Mora and Gruden were pretty young (37 and 38, I think) when they got their HC jobs.  I can't think of anyone younger than that.

Do you remember when Braman was going to hire David Shula who WAS 28 to coach the Birds after Campbell resigned? Jaws came right out and said he'd have a hard time respecting a coach that was way younger than him.

Luckily, though, Braman pushed his luck. Although he was friends with Daddy Don, he wanted David Shula to sign a 10 year contract, with 5 of them being a PERSONAL SERVICES contract if Braman fired him. Don Shula QUICKLY talked him out of that.

So, Payton turned down the Raiders last year for a better opportunity... then accepted the NO gig this year?

I don't get it.

Actually, I think it was THE RAIDERS that turned him down. As I read the coast papers, supposedly, Payton said they had an agreement, and he refused it--Davis said there was never an agreement.

PoopyfaceMcGee

Whatever.  NO will continue to be the bottom-dwellers in the NFC South for another couple of years minimum.

Payton turned down that wacko Al Davis. And even if the Raiders did sour on him, he should be thankful. Raiders gig = terrible.

And he'll have either Leinart or Young in NO to go along with Deuce McAllister. He might do some good down on the bayou.

Yep, he turned it down after being given a raise by Jerry Jones. It was the same deal with Zimmer when he was offered the Nebraska job.

Until Davis is properly medicated and made to realize he hasn't been making the smartest of moves the last few years, Oakland will continue to be a crappy place to coach.

PhillyPhreak54

He should just get Art Shell back in there.

I like how Shanahan rubs Davis' nose in it everytime he goes back to Oakland. I heard something about how Davis owes Shanny some money from when he got fired. So Shanahan takes out an ad (billboard or something) saying how if Davis would pay him he'd donate it all to the Oakland School District because they need help.

Insulting the owner and the town in one fell swoop. Good form.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

Pats replace Mangina with Pees.

QuoteMike Reiss, of the Boston Globe, reports the New England Patriots have promoted linebackers coach Dean Pees to defensive coordinator. Pees will replace Eric Mangini, who accepted the New York Jets' head coaching position Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Light Bulb Head's predictions on the other 4 spots:

St. Louis = Scott Linehan or Cam Cameron
Detroit = Haslett
Oakland = Saunders
Buffalo = Capers or Sherman

PoopyfaceMcGee

Wow, Buffalo fans have to be excited at those choices.

Capers, Sherman, Jauron... Does Ralph Wilson want to keep losing?  Why not toss Kotite into the mix?
