Rosenhaus Fired By Walker

WALKER, ROSENHAUS PART WAYS


WBAY-TV in Green Bay reports that Packers receiver Javon Walker has terminated his contract with agent Drew Rosenhaus.

We've learned that the move occurred on Friday, but that it was weeks in the making.

Walker, through Rosenhaus, threatened to hold out until he received an extension to his current contract, which runs through the 2006 season.  Faced with a forfeiture of signing bonus money -- and thanks to pressure from quarterback Brett Favre -- Walker showed up on time for camp.

Then tore his knee up in Week One of the regular season.

And while it's becoming popular in agent circles to dump on Drew, the reality is that the guy has worked out long-term deals for several of his high-profile clients over the past several months, including Jeremy Shockey, Santana Moss, Dan Morgan, Anquan Boldin, and others.

Still, the calculated strategies employed by Rosenhaus for both Walker and Terrell Owens have failed.  In the case of T.O., player and agent misjudged the resolve of the team.  In the case of Javon, fate in the form of a ruptured ligament prevented Walker from proving that his performance in 2004 wasn't a fluke.

As Walker now looks for a new agent and still hopes for a new contract, he needs to remember that, even if he finishes out the 2006 season and completes his current contract, he won't be eligible for unrestricted free agency absent an extension of the CBA.  Although many players are smacking their lips for the uncapped year of 2007, only players with six or more credited seasons will be eligible. 

Guys like Walker, who will have only five years in come 2007, will be subject to restricted free agency.

I'm fine with Drew getting the players he represents that are FREE AGENTS a good deal, but he crossed the line with the shtein he pulled with TO, Walker, and McKenzie. They're all to blame but he's the evil behind the mayhem.
