I felt fortunate when my parents ended up both moving far enough away from the place I grew up that those sorts of things didn't happen anymore.  "Hey, I ran into so-and-so's dad.  She's opening her own stationary-printing business!  How weird is that?"  I wanted to kill someone every time I had to pretend to care even slightly.
