I will never be able to bring myself to root against the Eagles winning. Having said that, come April, 4-12 would be a whole lot more helpful than 8-8.

I agree with everything you said here, to root for anyone else to the NFC East is abhorrent but I also understand what WestisGod means.  At some point in the season if your team is that bad you need to look for the future.  That being said the Eagles are good enough to be comptetive in every game and if that isn't good enough for someone then they shouldn't watch.

I want to see them win too. I want a parade down broad street. It isn't happening this year though, so in the grand scheme if things the rest of this season is meaningless. If there was no championship, then the games would all be played for nothing. This season the games are being played for nothing. I'm looking at the bigger picture. I want this team to be the best it can possibly be next year to make a Superbowl run. Unfortunately, sacrificing this year will help that cause. Sorta like the Spurs getting Tim Duncan. They tanked the season, got Duncan and since then had 3 parades.

If sacrificing a lost season for the greater good will put us in a similiar position to the Spurs, you'd do it in a heartbeat. It's just nothing in life is certain, but I want my team to be in the absolute best shape it can be for next season. Maybe if we finish with a terrible record we got a shot at a good pass rusher like Mario Williams in the draft.

Sure you can say you want to be entertained by going to the games this year, but once the season ends, and this team is out of the playoffs and once again without a championship, what will it matter? You've probably been to plenty of games there, but the one thing we all are missing is a parade. That is what I want.

and you are a no good bandwagon loser.

sports are more than winning championships. its the competition. and it's about the people that you are with when you take part in it. i want a superbowl as much as anyone. but i never want to see them lose.

4-12 is no worse than 7-9. If you're out, you're out.

which means you dont care if the Eagles get swept by the Skins and Giants this year.  unreal.

Look at what you've sunk to. When we miss the playoffs, and all the good players in the draft get eaten up and you say "Well at least we didn't get swept by the Giants and the taterskins!" Meanwhile one of those teams are laughing at us because they are IN the playoffs and we aren't. Is your ego that fragile? Do you need to go boast on their forums or something? Who frickin cares if they sweep us? What does it matter? We've swept them many times and what has it done for us? Nothing. In the end they get the last laugh because we didn't win a championship. I know they are rivalries and we all hate those teams and enjoy beating them, but I care about a championship first and foremost.

If we got swept by the Giants, Skins, and Cowboys, but still won a Superbowl that year, would you even care? No, because we get the last laugh. This year they will be getting a last laugh. All avoiding a sweep would do is to preserve your fragile ego.

It's different for us because WE'VE NEVER WON  A SUPERBOWL. I'm sick of just winning regular season games. I want a damn Superbowl, and IMO losing this year will help that cause. It's not about being competitive anymore. We've already done that. I'm sick of just being competitive.

um...it really has nothing to do with my ego.

i dont go around flexing interent muscles. and other teams laugh at the eagles? who cares?

i am a fan of the eagles. thats it. i dont give a shtein about message boards, and i certianly don't waste my time going to other teams message boards. on sunday, they play the giants. i want them to beat the giants. then comes next week.

oh...and don't saw WE...because there isnt a member of that team who wants to lose. loser.

An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

I wasn't even directing that post toward you first of all. Unless you couldn't see, I did quote someone's post and respond to it, and that person wasn't you.

Secondly, you don't have to agree with me if you don't want to. If you want to finish 7-9, fine. It will spare your pride, but you'll regret it later on.

If we ended up drafting someone who turned into the next Dwight Freeney simply because the team fell apart and ended up 4-12, then next season you'd be a happy man. The title of this thread is "Seaon over" time to think about winning a Superbowl next year.

Reidme

WEST, this is not the NBA. There is no Jordan or James hanging in the balance. Even if there was, it is no guarantee of a championship. It is not about bragging, it is about satisfaction. Say we get smoked, and somehow draft Matt Leinart, what the heck are we gonna do, sit him on the bench for a year or two behind McNabb, and then go back on a 4 year plan? All the while watching mediocrity. You wanna tailgate and mail in your season ticket money to watch dreck? If we draft 2 thru 5, Reid takes a lineman anyway. No way we get a hi round RB or WR. If we draft well, or draft poorly, it doesn't matter where we pick.

I get the theory, its just the reality of it should be more ditasteful to a fan with his head and heart in the game.

then stop watching.

i cant wait for the uncompetitive superbowls of the future!

you play hard ever farging game. you play to win every farging game. you think there is any player on that roster that cares about some rookie who's not even on a team yet? those guys will come take their jobs away. why they hell would they want a better draft position?

like i said, rooting for draft postition is for farging losers who think they know it all. and don't have the balls to face the present. yeah, this season sucks so far. but i am not going to stop rooting this team on.

you can go ahead and stop rooting for them to win. they wont care. and i certianly wont care.

Ahhh... the classic "Then stop watching them" line. It's none of your business if I continue to watch them or not, but just to let you know I will continue to watch them every game. Am I going to stand up and say "DAMMIT, THE EAGLES WON THE GAME, farg!" No I'm not, but if the Eagles lose am I going to be angry? No, I'm going to say "Oh well, this was the best thing." So when I said before I'm going to be rooting against them, then I guess it was a poor choice of words on my part. Am I going to root for them to win, and stand up scream and go crazy? Yes, but will I care all that much if we lost? Nope.

As long as I'm an Eagles fan I never want to see them lose games, so I'll never physically root against them, but it will be in the back of my mind this year that it probably is for the greater good. Then when we lose another game it won't bother me all that much at all because I'll have next year to look forward to.

Cheering for a better draft pick?

Sounds major.

I didn't realize that there are only ?what 15? good players available in the draft. What round was Owens taken in? What round was Westbrook taken in? Both of them are, or were at one point, GOD in your dumbass eyes.

WEST is GOD

Yea, no shtein. According to your logic why even keep a first round pick at all? Why not just trade it away every year if you can get equally good players in later rounds?

Considering the Eagles luck with first round picks lately, that might not be such a bad idea.

rjs246

Their luck in the first round has been pretty good IMO. Freddie, notwithstanding of course. Simon was a good player. Patterson is a good player. McNabb. Lito... ok, I'm not a Lito fan right now, but he's a good corner when he plays with his head on stright. Andrews and McDougle have had injuries, I know and that's unlucky, but I think their first rounders have been pretty productive for the most part.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?
