Sheldon Brown telling it like it is

Says that this whole TO/Irvin interview came out of left field. That they have all been hanging out fine all season long, even on Halloween Monday night they all went out and hung out (McNabb and TO included) and they were talking and joking around all season. That the whole team was just shocked at the interview.

And that had TO said this interview on Saturday, it would have been all good.

That TO's apology was great and believable, but that "his agent" screwed it all up by stealing the moment and running his mouth.

Team Brown, of course, approves.

He also said that some guys deserve second chances....and that his apology was sincere, that he was crying out for help...but that while he might deserve another chance, he's probably burned all of the bridges.

Kearse said to let it go....and that the next 8 games of the regular season, they'll be the Philadelphia Eagles, not the Philadelphia Terrell Owens.  :-D

I love Kearse...

however, I'd love him more if he could manage a few sacks...in fairness, he has been double-teamed.

From PFT.com:

QuoteAs league insiders openly question whether the performance of agent Drew Rosenhaus at Tuesday's press conference will cause him to lose one or more of his 90-some clients, we've already caught wind of tangible evidence of a backlash.  Per a league source, Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown has said that he plans to personally ensure that no draft-eligible player from his alma mater of South Carolina ever choose Rosenhaus as his agent

As always, Team Brown approves that message.

Rosenhaus is used to representing cocks, though.

QuoteBrown steps up, speaks his mind

By Ashley Fox
Inquirer Staff Writer

In the aftermath of the Terrell Owens disaster, there just may be salvation for the Eagles, because a funny thing happened yesterday. A leader emerged.

While other team veterans (Jeremiah Trotter and Lito Sheppard) declined to comment on the Owens saga or deferred until today (Donovan McNabb and Brian Dawkins), Sheldon Brown had no problem speaking his mind.

Brown had no problem expressing utter disbelief at the antics that led to Owens' dismissal from the Eagles on Tuesday. No problem dissing the most powerful agent in the National Football League. No problem vehemently defending his quarterback.

In only his fourth year in the league and just his second as a full-time starter, the 26-year-old Brown perhaps is too naive to know you don't criticize a fellow player, or take on agent Drew Rosenhaus. Or maybe Brown, who served for two years as Troy Vincent's apprentice before becoming a starting cornerback, is simply fed up with the constant crises Owens created to feed his boundless ego. Maybe Brown, a stand-up guy and straight-up player, spoke his mind because all he wants to do is win, and clearly with Owens slicing through the Eagles' locker room, the team wasn't going to win. Not again.

For nearly 30 minutes yesterday, Brown stood in front of his locker at the NovaCare Complex and calmly, politely, sometimes enthusiastically and always introspectively answered every question he was asked.

What happened? What do you think? What would you do? Where do you go from here?

"T.O.'s an individual who we may not understand," Brown said, "but he has his own thoughts, and who's to say his thoughts are not right? But he went about it the wrong way."

Brown told of a team gathering at Jevon Kearse's house on Halloween to watch the Monday Night Football game between Baltimore and Pittsburgh. McNabb was there. So was Owens. The two, according to Brown, got along fine.

Then - boom! - a few days later, Owens claimed a serious ankle injury, and said in an interview with ESPN.com that the Eagles would be undefeated with Brett Favre as quarterback and that the organization was classless for failing to publicly recognize his 100th career touchdown reception.

"I don't know what happened," Brown said. "This is, like, out of nowhere. You're acting like [Owens] would be showing up at Donovan's house wanting to fight. It wasn't like that... . We have the same questions you have. What happened to make him get upset? Go ask him. Then come back and tell us, so we'll be on the same page. We don't know. I seriously don't know."

What Brown said he did know was that the feud was not based on jealousy or money, but something much bigger. He said that Owens criticized McNabb, just as he had criticized Jeff Garcia when he was in San Francisco, because the quarterback is the face and, as Brown said, the "favorite son" of the organization.

What Brown said he didn't understand was why Owens would rip a man so instrumental in his own success. Why dog a quarterback, and try to crush his confidence, when you need him to help you thrive? A receiver can't catch a pass unless a quarterback throws it to him.

"The reason why I think he attacked the quarterback is because that's the only way you can really talk to the organization," Brown said. "It has nothing to do with Donovan. Trust me. That's what I'm trying to get across. We were all hanging together. We were all doing things together. If he talked about anyone else in this locker room, does it really matter? Does it? When he was in San Fran, if he talked about anyone else in that locker room, does it really matter?

"He was one of my favorite teammates. He always did well by me. He worked the crap out of me at practice. He made me better. I'm still trying to figure out the other part."

I asked Brown whether he thought the Eagles should have accepted Owens' apology, and he very diplomatically said he stands behind the organization's decision. Then I asked whether he wanted Owens back.

"Truthfully, he would have to do some serious stuff in front of me to Donovan," Brown said. "I mean, the only way I could see him coming back is renegotiating his contract in the Eagles' favor."

Brown said it was "a shame" that Owens' tenure in Philadelphia ended so abruptly, "but it's over and done with and it's time to move on," he added.

As hard as it is to believe, the Eagles' veterans soon will be moving on. They are aging, and fast. Just look at the leaders who already have left: Vincent and Bobby Taylor, Hugh Douglas and Ike Reese. All who really remain are McNabb and Trotter, Dawkins and Kearse.

So the time is right for a new leader to emerge. Yesterday, Sheldon Brown seemed all too willing and, more important, able to oblige.

Didn't he work the deal for Kearse?
