I heard them talking about this on ESPN Radio and they tried to get Whitlock on but he refused. So I went to ESPN.com to dig it up and see what the fuss is about. Jason Whitlock is a guy who likes to interject race into situations where it shouldn't be, much like Steve A. does sometimes.

He calls Notre Dame racist for giving Weis a 10-year contract extension. What?!?!?!?

QuoteNow, Weis' new 10-year contract, reportedly worth between $30 million and $40 million ... that strikes me as racist. Because there's just no way Notre Dame, or any school for that matter, would do the same thing for a black coach

QuoteLet's call this exactly what it is: greed and stupidity. Just like Terrell Owens -- but with far less proof -- Weis and his advisors reached the conclusion that the Great Weis Hope outperformed his contract. So Weis and Notre Dame concocted an excuse for the South Bend skies to rain money, and the fawning, lazy, hypocritical media co-signed for it.

Maybe had Willingham tried push-ups and sit-ups in his driveway, he would still be Notre Dame's coach. Never mind. T.O. tried that.

This is ludicrous. The simple fact here is that Notre Dame locked him up because there were rumors out there about the $1.5M buyout clause that NFL teams were going to start sniffing around to try to lure him away.

Chris Fowler is on ESPN Radio now saying the same thing - that this is strictly a deal that keeps NFL teams away from Weis.

Whitlock is a boob.

I love people who play the race card for headlines and shock value. It's awesome.

I agree that Whitlock's a meatcicle.  However, I will refrain from any further generalizations.  Let's just say I have a lot of opinions about racism and the accepted forms of it in today's society, and it brings me too close to vomiting.

Ahahaha.  Ridiculous.

Willingham is a joke of a coach.  He had sufficient time to turn the program around and didn't get it done.  Plus he didn't play ball with the alumni and you have to do that in the college ranks.

He's smug, he's arrogant and he's not a Golden Domer.   That's why he got canned, not because of his skin pigment.

LMFAO...how in the hell did TO get into THAT article?

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

To summarize: Notre Dame hasn't done anything racist... but they probably would! Therefore Notre Dame is racist.

WEST is GOD

Racists don't bother me as long as they don't act on their beliefs in harmful ways.
THIS SEASON IS OVER AND ANDY'S WORLD IS GRIDL

Offseason needs: 2 DEs, 1 DT, 1 OL, 2 LBs, 1 RB, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 KR.

QuoteNotre Dame has beaten a mediocre Michigan team, a Dave Wannstedt-coached Pittsburgh team that is .500 only because the Big East is terrible, the third- or fourth-best team in the Mountain West Conference (BYU), a bad Purdue squad, and a Washington club with one victory (vs. Idaho).  Please don't tell the CIA I told you this -- this information is classified top secret -- but the combined record of Weis' victims is 17-24.

QuoteIn case you've forgotten, in 2002, Tyrone ran up an 8-0 record against Maryland, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, Stanford, Pittsburgh, Air Force and Florida State. Six of those teams -- all but Stanford and Michigan State -- played in bowl games that year. The combined record, including bowl games, for those eight clubs was 60-43.

You gotta admit... it's wierd that Ty wasn't given an extension this early in his tenure despite being better.  I mean, if ND was looking for a savior, Ty looked every bit of it then as Weis does now.

Weis DOES have a few Super Bowl rings and ND did come very close to beating a team who haven't lost in like 30 or something games.

The situations could not be more different. Charlie Weis not only has turned a mediocre team (talent wise) into a team that has a chance to beat anyone in the country (including the 2-time national champs), but he is 100% guaranteed to be a hot commodity for professional teams looking for a coach. This extension was a preemptive strike against him leaving to coach the Saints, or whatever other pro team will no doubt be creaming themselves over him in the offseason.

Willingham took a talented team and recruited TERRIBLY and in turn that team got worse and worse year by year. Do you think Charlie Weis is having any trouble getting top recruits after the ridiculous display the team has put on this year? It's possible that Weis will fizzle like Willingham did, but you're talking about a coach that wasn't really that successful, and people are bitching because ND didn't extend him? Looks like pretty good foresight to me.

Ty Willingham is simply not as good a football coach as is Charlie Weis.  No one can prove otherwise with a straight face.

Apples/oranges.  Weis was a proven commodity in the NFL and would have had teams banging down his door in a few months.  Conversely, no one that I know of was banging down Willingham's door for any reason.

Notre Dame had to sew him up.  If not, it was back to square one for them.   Again.
