Since the start of the 2000 season, Johnson, a longtime NFL assistant who was hired by Andy Reid in Philadelphia in 1999, has directed a defense that has more sacks (250) and surrendered the fewest points (a 15.8 points a game average) of any defense in the league.

Complicating matters some is that in Mike Shanahan's tenure as coach, the Broncos have not faced a team for which Johnson was the defensive coordinator. Shanahan's Broncos did face the Seattle Seahawks twice in 1998, when Johnson was linebackers coach.
