Welbourn suspended

The Chiefs confirmed Friday that veteran lineman John Welbourn has received a four game NFL suspension for violating league rules on steroid use.

In his rejected appeal of the league's decision, Welbourn contended that he did not know he was taking anything that included a banned substance, and he attempted to support that contention by submitting to a polygraph test.

"I was polygraphed by the best guy in the world, but they didn't believe him," Welbourn said after not playing in the Chiefs' 27-23 loss to the Rams on Friday.

Added coach D Vermeil: "He says he didn't take anything intentionally, and I believe him. But whether he took something accidentally or it was mislabeled on the bottle or whatever, he's smart enough to know not to do that."

Welbourn, last year's starting right tackle, had been working at right guard this year in the event that Will Shields, who has been fighting back soreness, is unable to play. Chris Bober will be Kansas City's only veteran backup guard during Welbourn's suspension.

I heard some guy on WIP the other day bashing them for letting Corey get that fat contract in Indy and that they were idiots for not going after Price or Warrick. Last time I checked their FO knows what it is doing.
