Three of them should play right away. Two should help out on special teams. Seven or eight will make the team.

None have been disappointing.

Eagles Vice President of Player Personnel Tom Heckert says you can't really evaluate an NFL draft for a few years. We'll try to do it after a few weeks.

Awfully promising.

"It's got a chance to be a pretty good one," Heckert said. "There's a few guys we know are going to be players. You have to wait three years to see how everybody pans out, but we feel real good about this draft."

After a month of practices and three preseason games, here are Heckert's observations on the Eagles' 10 remaining rookie draft picks. Seventh-round pick David Bergeron was released Saturday.

DT Mike Patterson, 1st round

"Mike's everything we thought he'd be. He's pretty far along as far as playing the professional game. He just knows what he's doing."

WR Reggie Brown, 2nd round

"We're very happy with Reggie. He's made some plays and he's going to keep getting better and better. With T.O. not at the minicamps and Todd [Pinkston] out [for the year], he's gotten to play a lot and he's really benefited from that. He just needs to continue to learn."

WLB Matthew McCoy, 2nd round

"He's behind two pretty good players in Keith [Adams] and Mark [Simoneau] and they've been playing a lot, so he hasn't been getting the same experience as some of the other guys, so he's had to do it mentally. He was more of a middle linebacker in college and [weak side] is all brand-new to him. But he's super tough. Special teams is also new to him, but he goes down and tries. He's busting his butt. He just needs to continue learning and he'll be fine."

RB Ryan Moats, 3rd round

"He's just a playmaker. Very similar to what he showed in college. Like Reggie, he's still got to learn the offense, but that'll come. The thing with Ryan also is that sometimes he tries to dance and make a big play and sometimes you just have to go north-south and not worry about making a big play."

S Sean Considine, 4th round

"He's been a little banged up [shoulder], but we still think Sean is eventually going to be a big-time player."

OT Todd Herremans, 4th round

"Here's a guy coming out of a Division 2 school and he's pretty much been our starting left tackle with Tra [Thomas] out, he's done a heck of a job with it."

DE Trent Cole, 5th round

"He was playing really well before he got hurt [sternum]. He's a high-energy, high-motor guy and a tough guy. He's a little undersized, but he is fast fast. He's legitimately fast and super strong and explosive."

OG Scott Young, 6th round

"This is only his second year playing offensive line, so it's all still new to him. But he's obviously a very strong guy, runs a 5.0 40, smart kid. He's a ways away, but he's got a shot to be really good."

OT Calvin Armstrong, 7th round

"He's another giant [6-7, 325] and he's shown some good toughness. Smart, tough kid, he's done a good job. We're happy with him."

DT Keyonta Marshall, 7th round

"Another guy who's taken advantage of some opportunities, with Corey [Simon] not here and all the injuries we had at defensive tackle. He's a wide body and a strong player. We're kind of impressed with how he's handled everything coming from a small, Division 2 school [Grand Valley State]."

How can Heckert lie to us like this?  IGY has already said that Considine is not an NFL starting-calibre player, and we all know that IGY has an innate ability to see these things.

That is some of the funniest shtein I have ever heard.   He should work in an NFL scouting deparment.  The two players IGY says can't play are white I wonder if that is coincidence.

On a serious note though the rookie class has looked fantastic.  If they continue to progress this may rival the Lito, Sheldon, Lewis, Westbrook draft.  It is very hard not to get excited about this class.

That's not the point i'm making Ms. Perfect.  I'm saying that Heckert is calling Simoneau a "pretty good" player.  He's okay...not pretty good.  Notice how i DID NOT highlight the behind part?!  I highlighted pretty good and Simoneau?!  Yeah...go ahead with the your signature rolled eyes.

Agreed... it appears we have some serious talent in this draft.  From playmakers to solid role players, we seemed to have covered it.  I think it may end up a case of quantity versus quality (the 2002 draft) where all of the top guys became pro-bowlers... or virtual pro-bowlers in Sheldon's case.  This draft seems from top to bottom stacked with guys who are gonna end up very solid starters for us... but not neccesarily the tops of the NFL at their respective positions.

  Its true. You know I am not high on Sims, but at this point in McCoy's career, I dont' want him in there in case of an injury to Adams.
