He's reverted back to last years mega-conservative offensive philosophy. Santana Moss was tearin it up early on but teams caught onto him and started doubling him and disguising coverages and they didn't adjust. Gibbs still runs that bubble screen to him way too much for it to be effective.

And Clinton Portis is a system back. Last year we heard that he wasn't accustom to the Gibbs blocking schemes and that this year he'd be ready to explode. Not seeing it yet, Clint. LIke last years opening day big run against TB Clint's season long run came in week 1 this year. He season long is 41 yards. Not exactly a $50M RB.

I hope the Rams start the Hahvahd guy and he beats the Skins this week. That would be some good pointin and laughin there.

This is from Steve Czaban, a FoxSportsRadio host as well as a local DC radio host and taterskins fan...

QuoteHere's a little quote that jumped right off the page at me. It was from the Post Sunday prior to the Charger game. Gregg Williams commenting on the Skins having to shuffle some personnel in the wake of various injuries on defense. Here's the quote:

"We haven't had Cornelius Griffin, and LaVar we're just getting him back now. I honestly believe that along with Bill Belichick up in New England, we do it the best."

Um, excuse me, but please, stop mentioning the words "New England" in comparison to ANYTHING that this taterskins franchise under Dan Snyder does. This is the third time I've heard somebody at taterskin park compare themselves to the THREE-TIME Super Bowl champs.

So in the words of Ryan Leaf: "Knock it off!"

Really, I mean it. It's embarrassing to you, and insulting to us.

:-D

More from Czaban...I like this guy. :yay

Okay. What's left to say? I mean really. We now know exactly what we have this year. This is an utterly NON-playoff caliber team, which struggles to score 21 points on most given weeks (in fact now, 8 of 11 weeks to be exact.)

It has an average defense, that despite a 3-0 advantage in turnovers Sunday, still can't stop the people it needs to stop when it matters. The roster is extremely thin, thanks to having traded 13 draft picks in the last three years, and two more coming this April (our 1st and 4th rounders. Ouch.).

Despite an offensive line that is ENTIRELY healthy, and has two former Pro-Bowlers, and two more high dollar free agents on it, they can't dominate games. Clinton Portis, the highest paid back in franchise history, seldom has breakout games that destroy the will of the opponent.

In fact, what Tomlinson did to the taterskins Sunday, was what Portis used to do in Denver. He hasn't done that but maybe twice since coming here. Funny what getting paid can do to a guy.

Then there's Gibbs. Cover the coach Sunday in a brown paper wrapper and label him "NFL Coach X." Then evaluate how he did calling plays. Anyone and everyone would rip the guy to shreds.

The taterskins had 7 first-and-ten situations in the 4th quarter. Guess how many times they ran Portis? Answer: six. To be that predictable is pure death in the NFL. On back to back possessions, the taterskins went run-run-pass-punt. Repeat.

Then, after a "sent from heaven" INT to give the Skins the ball in prime FG range, they commit a stupid holding call. Okay. Tough break. Deal with it.

What does Gibbs do on 2nd and 14? Runs Portis for no gain. They fail on 3rd down, and miss the 53 yarder.

It was in a word, gutless.

But ooooohhhhh, noooooooo! You can't say that about Joe Gibbs! He's in the HALL OF FAME! "How dare you! You must be a taterskins witch! BURN HIM!"

Here's the only question I want to know right now from fellow taterskin fans. How long does the Gibbs 2.0 "honeymoon" last? No really. I need to know. When is it "okay" to actually JUDGE this coach, on what he is doing on a weekly basis on the sideline to earn his $7 million salary?

Is it never? Can we never judge Joe Jackson Gibbs because he's in the Hall of Fame and gave us three Super Bowl titles in the 80's and 90's?

If you say "yeah, that's right" then I'll just shut up.

But something inside me as a fan says that I DO reserve the right to judge Gibbs in his current performance. I DO have the right to expect the "honeymoon" to end sometime on this comeback and demand quality NFL coaching. I think that I DO as a fan, have a good sense for how a coach is performing in this league, like any other deeply committed fan who has spent hours, and weeks, and months, and years of his life watching and caring about this team.

And just because I want to tell Gibbs "shake yourself, man" then I'm the bad guy? I'm not allowed to say, "Hey, your team is 5-5, at home, in a crossroads game and needs one bullet to #89 to get a sure FG. Stop running the f'ing ball you coward, and have your boy #8 step up and make a play to win the damn game!"

This doesn't mean I want him fired. It doesn't mean I don't "believe" in him. It just means I'm frustrated, fed up, and ready for him to start WINNING games instead hoping they fall into his lap.

He's the guy who has now watched three consecutive 4th quarter leads evaporate into losses. Not me.

End of rant.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I know that I can't be the only taterskin fan, who has become an even BIGGER "Marty Fan" since the General left town.

Here's some food for thought...

- Marty was the last guy to engineer a 5 game winning streak
- Marty was last guy who managed to put the skins on the cover of Sports Illustrated
- Marty drafted well. Fred smoot and Rod Gardner were both voted to various All-Rookie teams. Smoot led the team in picks as a rookie with 5. Gardner was the 2nd leading receiver on the team.
- Marty knew how to use his horses, riding Stephen Davis to a club record 1,432 yards.
- Marty called for discipline and backed it up with sometimes painful consequences. Remember him cutting Larry Centers for not rehabbing his knee at taterskin Park?
- Marty also tidied up the salary cap mess left following the "Fortune 500" fiasco of 2001. Cap room that would be quickly squandered the following winter.

Above all, though Marty Schottenheimer left town with class. I will never forget.. Marty's final impromptu press conference, right there, on the front steps of taterskin Park under a cold steel January sky.

He stood... and answered every question
He did not challenge Snyder's right to fire him
He did not sound bitter.
He did not ask for pity.
He did not lash out.
He did not make excuses.

And to this day, the NEXT deragatory thing you'll hear Marty Schottenheimer say about Dan Snyder, will be the FIRST. Because for a guy who has every right, and plenty of opportunity to say "I told you so" , he hasn't and he won't.

And that my friends, is awfully hard not to respect.

To an extent, but most Eagles fans don't go around mindlessly slobbing Reid for what he has done previously. In the time Reid has been with the Eagles, this is the first time we've had a season like this. Gibbs has been here going on two years, and fans down here still swear they are a Super Bowl caliber team simply because he is here. There is an unwritten fan/media ban on questioning him, or what he does. It hilarious and sickening at the same time.

Are you saying that no one questions Reid's play-calling & coaching?

In relation to the current situation between the Skins and the Eagles there's a big difference in slobbering over someone's jock because of what they did in the last six years than what they did 15-20 years ago. Besides, Gibbs is in the middle of his second suck-arse season out of two in this tenure, Reid is in his first suck-arse season out of seven.

Be fair, this season doesn't suck as much as the first one.
He gets a bit of a pass there, though.
Anyone but Reid.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

What does Reid do on 3rd and 1? A twenty five yard sideline route to Pinskton. They fail and have to punt.

It was in two words, god complexic.

But ooooohhhhh, noooooooo! You can't say that about Andy Reid! He's the most games in EAGLE HISTORY! "How dare you! You must be a Eagles witch! BURN HIM!"

If he called a 25-yard sideline route to Pinkston this season then yes, he probably should be fired.
