Any chance Simon is a backup this season?

Any odds that Patterson and Walker start the season and Simon comes into the rotation ast the #3?   I mean, the Eagles already have that franchise money ready for him, doesnt matter from a cash standpoint if he starts/sits etc.  If he is out of shape and Patterson turns out to be a stud.....  just sayin..

The ideal situation is that we have 3 (possibly maybe) 4 starting caliber DTs and they rotate and stay fresh and it doesn't matter who starts. I don't know how close to reality that is, but it would be a helluva nice situation to have.

While it wouldn't bother me, i don't know if i see it happening.  Simon knows the system and i'm sure JJ's much more comfortable having him in than a rook.

Ah I think Rayburn will start over Patterson, I think Rayburn is our best DT, if he stays healthy.  Truck Driver :yay

I don't know...the fact that he's making all of that money this year makes me believe they won't use him as a backup.

I hope he sits out the season and gives that fatass rookie a chance to make the squad. I love the whole 'quick DT' thing, but gimme a real lardass who can force the running plays outside and I'll be a lot happier with this defense. And that's what JJ cares about the most. Making me happy.

Especially with another holdout from camp, I would not be surprised if Reid technically gives the starting gig to someone else (Team Patterson recommends #98), but Simon will still get as many reps as he can handle.  Which probably won't be very many considering the kind of shape he's perpetually in.

Lardass report:

QuoteKeyonta Marshall made perhaps the play-of-the-day when he intercepted a deflected pass and wobbled down the field for a nice return before flipping the ball to linebacker David Bergeron for the touchdown. Johnson commented that it was a fun play, but emphasized that Marshall must get in better shape.

"He needs to lose a few pounds," Johnson said. "He's working hard. I like the effort that he's giving. He's got a nice size, he needs to get in a little bit better shape."

Agreed.  Although I think Rayburn is a more likely candidate to be the technical starter (is that anything like "technical virgin"?) than Patterson.  That said, all 5 guys (don't forget Hollis) will get their share of snaps.

Rayburn has been taking the snaps with the #1s in Simon's place.

I could see Rayburn beginning the season as the starter, but once Simon gets into football shape either he or Walker will go to #3.

With Patterson's play currently I don't think anyone really cares about Corey.

When is the last time we heard anything about him anyways? Doesn't seem like anyone is asking about his contract situation.
