perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I could imagine a strange alternate universe in which I move my family to Puerto Rico.  It's been discussed anyway.

I'd move there in a heart beat if they didn't speak Mexican.

I believe you've writen about that here before.

Wifey wants to go away for a week - She's looking at a Secrets resort named St. James in Montego Bay..

- Anyone have any insight into that area/resort? Good? Bad?

I've been there, and I really liked it. Well actually it was Wild Orchid, which is on the same property. St. James is known as the quieter of the two, mostly because all of the restaurants and activities are on the Wild Orchid side of the property. Still, the whole place is pretty laid back, so if you're looking for something other than relaxing and being pampered, this might not appeal to you. I'm an old fart, so it was perfect for me.   ;D

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. You can definitely pay for excursions to take you darned near anywhere. They have an excursion person on duty every day to help with booking whatever you want. All it takes is time and money. If I was looking to explore more of Jamaica, I'd probably stay elsewhere. The drive from Montego Bay to nearly anywhere else in the country is pretty long, and Kingston is pretty much on the other side of the island. Dunn's River is at least a half day trip. I considered an excursion to the Appleton Rum factory, but it was a full day trip. And for what I was paying for the vacation, I was fine with the peace and quiet at the resort.

I'm generally not one to repeat a vacation. Life is too short to now see something new. But this place was good enough for me to give it strong consideration in my planning.

I can give you some pretty specific details if you want.

All the "all-inclusive" places offer added benefit of safety if you stay on property, especially in Jamaica. But don't waltz around like an idiot, and you'll probably be safe. It's no worse than plenty of sections of major US cities you've visited. Plus, you might be able to acquire a garbage bag of MJ for that $5 (which is why you could also get mugged for $5).

Pretty spot on. Don't go wandering off property at night, especially alone. Pretty common sense advice. Realize that as a foreign tourist, you're already a target. Just don't make yourself an easy target.

BTW...the MJ laws in Jamaica can be pretty complicated. They tend to treat Jamaicans one way, and foreigners (especially tourists with money) very differently. There is plenty of corruption in law enforcement, and if you are caught there, your rights are pretty much nonexistent.

We'll keep an eye out for a string of unexplained deaths there.

Another trip to Houston, another miserable experience

Nuke this worthless city and its republican funhole state
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
