If Wrigley wasn't a shteinhole right now I'd go there.

Tickets from Houston to SFO are expensive. Stupid hub to hub pricing. I miss Continental. United sucks dick.

$1400 for a first class ticket? No. We will drive to Austin and pay $800 less. Dicks.

Yes United does suck.  I am so entrenched with those clowns having flown with them since college days raking up the miles back when miles actually got you something.  Hawaii to Boston roundtrips twice a year were sweet.  Automatic first class upgrades, back when United first class was awesome.  Now it's a joke.  They have been using the older planes for years in & out of HNL.  Within the last year there have been some upgrades but they still blow.  Virgin America just openend up Hawaii so I am ready to jump ship.  Between my wife and I we have enough miles for Europe round trip but I'm sure the stipulation is 15 stops from HNL to London.

Gotta see Alcatraz for sure - and other than the full house house Lolol - what should we see and do?

Get some shrooms and go to Haight/Ashbury and Golden Gate park. Funnest day you'll have in your life

Fishermans Wharf is awesome and has good restaurants. We were heading back to the ship for the night when we heard music...went into some upstairs dive bar and watched this band called the Bachelors...they played Rockabilly complete with a cello and they were followed by a singer who did Tracy Chapmsn stuff (this was 2000ish). Two of the best performers I ever watched live.

We were walking in thd city one night and stumbled upon some venue...Bad Brains was playing. We bought tickets and had a blast.

There's always the wine stuff...Napas a cool little city. Check out Lombard street.

Thanks for the tips man. I'm excited to check it out. Two buddies said they're in but need wife clearance and then it's on.

Don - yeah when they merged with CO the service in Houston dropped big time. I racked up a bunch of miles and would get upgraded all the time. Now I haven't flown as much as the past but even the 1k's aren't getting upgrades because they'd rather sell them. So now rather than hope and pray I get one I just buy seats up front.

Living in Houston doesn't allow me much of an option for non-stops because if I fly anyone else then I'm connecting. However United has sucked so much I'm close to jumping to American despite having to connect in DFW. But they're merging with USAir and that could suck.

Do not do this.  Haight-Ashbury is a sad tourist trap, infested with trustafarians and annoyed residents who hate the tourist crush for a long dead era.

Mushrooms at Golden Gate park, that sounds like a nice time.

They're right next to each other. What dio is suggesting is like going to the beach but skipping the boardwalk because it's a tourist trap. The most important thing is the shrooms.

Well I won't be partaking in any hallucinogenic drugs...so thats out.

J, SF is a great city.  There is so much to do and see.  Bay Area is so cool.  Dio is correct, Haight-Ashbury is nothing.  Coworker lives there, yuppie/hipster mecca.  Stay in the Union Square area.  Centrally located and walking distance to everything in the city - wharf (extremely touristy but fun), Chinatown, Market St, South of Market (SOMA), Emarcadero, ball park.

Highly recommend some very cool local neighborhoods.  Chestnut St.  is a great place.  Local spot with awesome shops and eateries.  Gives you a great vibe of the city.  Wife and I love it there.  Fillmore St. in Pacific Heights is cool as well.  Also Russian Hill.

We went to a bar last year right outside the ball park called MoMo's.  Got there about three hours before game time.  It was an absolutely beautiful June day and we sat outside.  People watching, few cocktails, lots of fun.  I am sure there are ton of cool establishments around the park.

Good stuff, man - thank you!

I think we will be staying at the Marriott Downtown which is close to PacBell...that area around the stadium seems to be a nice spot.

I was originally going to go Fri-Sun but think I might extend it a day.

I was in Mexico for a week for a destination wedding. It was my first time at an all-inclusive resort and had a blast. Being within 10 ft of a free bar at all times is as good as it seems.

Also went inland and saw Chichen Itza. That was cool as hell. If any of you are into history, sweet architecture, and other shtein like that, would strongly recommend it.

rjs246

Which resort were you at? I've been to the Valentin there twice and i can't recommend it highly enough.

I've always disdained resorts as racist, polluting, bourgeois money traps.

I'm wrong?

I mean, from what I can tell they're no more racist than any touristy industry that is trying to draw Americans but I don't have any idea. They are definitely bourgeois but not really money traps. Put me in a hotel and have me drink for a week and I'll spend three times what an all-inclusive place charges.

It appears that the entire area south of cancun where these resorts are relies on the all inclusive places for jobs and revenue. They drive the non spring break tourism industry for the region. But of course I'll be the first to admit that the nuances of the yucatan peninsula's economy and the social impact of tourism are not my area of expertise.
