James Stockdale

"Who am I? Why am I here?"

Just saw this ... this guy was from most accounts a brave and proud American, who served his country his entire life. Too bad he was tapped by Perot to be his running mate for Vice President, because after that debate where he clearly was overmatched in terms of public speaking, and a bit out of touch, he was widely ridiculed. Perot was a nut, this guy was simply getting old. He actually fell asleep at one of the Vice Presidential debates.

That being said, that Saturday Night Live bit (pictured above) where Dana Carvey drops him in the middle of nowhere is one of the funniest SNL skits from that era.
The NFL old standard.

QB Eagles

Dennis Miller said it best about Stockdale:

"The reason he had to turn his hearing aid on at that debate is because those farging animals knocked his eardrums out when he wouldn't spill his guts. He teaches philosophy at Stanford University, he's a brilliant, sensitive, courageous man. And yet he committed the one unpardonable sin in our culture: he was bad on television."

Vietnam era commander, Gen. William Westmoreland dead at 91

Surprised there wasn't more said here about this one.  I admire the man for what he had to put up with, and agree with his assessment that the US did not lose the Vietnam War.  Even today on CNN, they were referring to Vietnam as "the only war the US ever lost", which is simply not true.
I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right.
