For a man of such advanced age, he did stay active in the physics community. I attended a lecture of his at Cornell maybe 5 years ago.

As for the A-bomb being a Pandora's box, keep in mind it also basically ended the possibility of world war, by making such a war unthinkably terrible. The USA and USSR certainly would have fought it out if not for the bomb.

I don't think there's much danger of a nuclear war between two nations with sane leadership, even if the leadership is evil or stupid. The danger comes from people like al-Qaeda or Kim Jong Il having them, because those guys are cuckoo for Coco Puffs, and have legions of brainwashed drones who would actually carry out insane orders.

Dutch soccer coach Rinus Michels dies, age 77.

For those of you who followed international soccer, rinus Michels died a week ago. He is the coach who introduced "totaalvoetbal" (total-soccer), the style of play that won Ajax a couple of European Cups in the early 1970's, and got the Dutch national soccer team to the WC finals, where they lost to the Germans. He also coached Barcelona to the first national title for well over a decade.
It was fitting however that he was the coach of the Dutch national team that won the European Championships in Germany in 1988. They beat Germany in the semi's, exacting revenge for 1974.

"Meet the Parents" Actress Dies- 30-Year Old Nicole DeHuff

The actress died Feb. 16 in Hollywood, four days after she reportedly checked into a Los Angeles hospital, was misdiagnosed and sent home with orders to take Tylenol.


When her condition worsened, she returned to the hospital and was prescribed antibiotics for bronchitis and again sent home. Two days later, paramedics were called to her home after she collapsed, gasping for breath. By the time she reached the hospital, she was unconscious and passed away soon after.
