By rule, I don't mourn people that take their own lives.  I believe such people have basically no soul.

Rather, I really feel for those who knew and loved him, if any such people exist.  His committing suicide basically tells all of them how much their caring for him meant to him:  zilch.

I'm not going to get ito an argument about suicide in general, but Thompson was one of the few genuinely unique and interesting writers (to me) of the past 50 years.  I'll mourn, with several cheap cans of beer and a prescription drug or two.

A slick-boxer, Young extended the great Muhammad Ali the 15-round limit and also faced the likes of Ken Norton, Gerry Cooney, Ron Lyle, Ernie Shavers among others. His greatest win was a decision victory over George Foreman that sent Foreman into a ten-year retirement. Young took the rope-a-dope a step further in that fight, ducking his head through the ropes to avoid Foreman's powerful punches. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Hunter S. Thompson's ashes will be fired across his Colorado estate by a cannon, in keeping with his final wishes. The journalist and author committed suicide at his secure compound in Woody Creek on Sunday. He was 67. The Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas author wanted a simple, but bizarre funeral, during which his body is cremated and his ashes blasted across the ranch, according to his lawyer George Tobia Jr. Thompson's friend, journalist Troy Hooper explains, "I believe he wanted to be shot out of a cannon. I understand it's in his will. That's Hunter's style. That's how he would want it. He was a big fan of bonfires and explosions and anything that went bang and I'm sure he'd like to go bang as well."
