Diomedes

French impressionist painter.  Try to keep up.

Pynchon

There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists." - Yosemite Park Ranger

Dio knows this but its Thomas Pynchon. He wrote The Crying of Lot 49 and Gravity's Rainbow.

And Inherent Vice.

So not the guy from Perfect Strangers?

The man. The myth. The legend.

Munson

I think he's talking about Pierce Brosnan.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

And for the record, I don't like Pynchon. farg him and his impossibly dense, nihilistic nonsense.

Still totally true. I wouldn't recommend either of the books of his that I've read. But his style translates better to two hours on the big screen than it does to a book that takes four months to read. Or so I suspect. Regardless I'll be seeing it.

Also, can someone answer my death wish question?

I'm not a huge movie watcher, but this is one that I do want to see.  I got to go to Selma last spring as part of a Teaching American History trip and walked over the Edmund Pettus Bridge and saw Brown Chapel.  It was extremely moving.  When my kids are a few years older (they're 7 and 11 now) I want to take them there.

EDIT:  That said, I'm usually terrible watching history-related movies.  I tend to pick them apart.

inherent vice - a meandering completely lost piece of shtein of a movie that pta fans will surely go out of their way to praise even tho they themselves will know how full of shtein while running around telling people how great it is....its the movie equivalent of an abandoned motor boat going around in circles for hours until the gas runs out

2/10

This was pretty much my perception of it simply based on the previews. I can't tell what it's about or what the point of it is. Looks like someone found a shtein load of 70s props and a screen play with missing pages throughout and said "farg it....let's do this."

Read the book first, you farging cretins.
