Anyone seen a good movie lately?

tree of life wasnt a movie...it was an art project.

boyhood in some ways can be described as that but theres clearly a plot and a story and actual characters behind it. its a movie. just like hurt locker--which came out in the summer, actually.

whatever it is it has zero chance at the best pic Oscar

its only in art houses and indy theaters

they clearly arent trying to make it an oscar movie....no matter the subject oscar nominations = pathway to theaters. the studio that financed it is rather small, so they are going for the slow build rout.

its not really a bad thing, just odd to see a movie with this good press get stashed in the summer.

I don't think you are realizing what linklater did with this movie....its literally a miracle....he will win

the open question is whether the movie wins

i dont think you understand how these things work

deserve has nothing to do with it. if he doesnt play the game, he has no shot. in fact its not even a lock he gets nominated. again the movie is going to be buried by the time ballots go out.

he should, of course, be crowned for pulling this off. but hollywood is high school and its a popularity contest. you know this.

worst part of any of the rocky movies

in III apolo is giving it to rocky in the corner right before the round where he knocks out clubber and theres this exchange:

rocky: I KNOW what im doing
apolo: DONT TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!!!

its uncomfortably bad and pisses me off every time I see it
