at this point i would trust nolan to do anything even if it means re casting the joker if it fits the 3rd movie.

another person who i think could pull a great performance would be depp. i just hope if they do ever re cast someone for the joker that actor tries to make it their own and doesnt try to mimic ledger.

movie was incredible. watched it in imax. the sound was incredible.

its horrible quality but here is the ending on youtube. i think it was the perfect ending..fits in perfectly with the tragedy of the bruce/batman character:

Marge: I have someone who can help you!
Homer: Is it BATMAN!!??
Marge: No hes a scientist
Homer: Batman is a scientist.
Marge: Its not BATMAN!

I went and watched The Dark Knight today. I felt it pretty much lived up to the hype and I enjoyed it. Ledger was awesome and was Oscar worthy for sure. Aaron Eckhart was pretty good as well. The twist they gave him was nice and unexpected. Like others, I felt it did run a little long, but it was still a solid 4/5.

Munson

I really need to go see it again.
The Joker is so twisted, it's awesome.

And I didn't even think of Depp...I think that would actually be a good idea. He has a slightly similar look, and could definitely pull it off as an actor.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Depp would be a terrible Joker. He can pull of weird parts, but he wouldn't have anywhere near the intensity for it to come close to this performance.

The man. The myth. The legend.

There can't be a Joker in the next movie. They already lost continuity with Katie Holmes leaving after Batman Begins. There isn't room for any more. Plus Ledger was too good to risk using another actor in his place. They should just find a new villain to use.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

But, Depp could pull off being another twisted, sinister villain for Batman in the next one.  He is probably the odds on favorite for whatever they do next.
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.

My vote for the next villain is Dane Cook. His acting skills have been on the shelf too long since his last movie.

You know, Depp as the Riddler might work.....
Anyone but Reid.

THe Dark Knight was awesome.
It actually kinda pisses me off now that Heath Ledger died.
There was some rumor somewhere on the interwebs, I forget where, that Daniel Day Lewis has expressed interest in taking over the Joker role...hm.

Anyway, I agree with pretty much everything that has been said here. The stupid batman voice was annoying, the Two-Face story was rushed, Ledger was excellent, etc blah blah.

I loved how farging psychotic the Joker was.
Also, I laughed hard at the hospital scene when he was walking out. Same with the "pencil trick".

He'd be setting himself up for complete failure... and so would Nolan.  Ledger's Joker is going to cast a looooooong shadow over that role for a long time.  Lewis or anyone else for that matter would be compared to Ledger's Joker in EVERY aspect and then ridiculed because he didn't do the Joker the way Ledger did it.

They'd be much better off just going with another villian in the movie.

couldnt agree more...like i said before it would be a travesty if they had someone else try and play the joker after ledger...to the point that it would be uncomfortable to even watch
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

I'd like to see Bane as the next villain. Most of the other good ones have already been done. In 'Batman and Robin', Bane's story was never really told. It was a very poor portrayal.

I haven't seen the movie yet, so I'm not really qualified to rate Ledger's performance, but if anyone could take over the role and improve upon Ledger's performance, Daniel Day-Lewis could.  He's that good of an actor.

Also - check out the IMDB page for "The Road".  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0898367/

There's a character listed as "Baby Eater".   :-D

I would have to agree and I am in the same boat as you as far as not seeing the movie.  I can't see too many things he wouldn't be able to pull off as an actor.

See that's the point though... it's because you haven't seen the movie yet.  You don't know just how much Ledger nailed the role and all the nuances that came with it.  It really is a memorable performance.  There are people who are seeing that movie twice... just to see HIM again.

You can't just put another guy in there a year or two later and act like you never saw Ledger because his performance sticks too much in your head afterwards.
