Predator is damn good. And is definitely one of the few that come close to Aliens, but Arnold movies always get knocked down half a peg. Always. As a big fan of Conan and the Terminators and Predator I still feel comfortable saying that he is a travesty.

not that you mention terminator...they are making a new trilogy (parts 4-6) on the actual war. christian bale is john connor.

the bad news? the guy who used to direct music videos and did the charlies angels movies is the director. even worse news? the guys who did the catwoman script are writing this one.

Bale makes a perfect John Conner.....I hope those other people don't farg it up.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I thought Indy was awful as well.  Apparently there weren't any refrigerators @ Hiroshima/Nagasaki.

I watched Wake Up Ron Burgundy.  farging hilarious, its the same movie, just with a bunch of different scenes, and great quotes.  Brick bagged me up again.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_Up%2C_Ron_Burgundy:_The_Lost_Movie

Idiocracy was much better than i was expecting.

I saw Indiana Jones over the weekend...and i liked it. It wasn't believeable at all...but it was still a fun movie, that was kept the spirit of the originals.

**spoiler**

and lol and anyone saying it wasnt as "believable" as the originals. As if for some reason, Nazi's falling to the wrath of god in an instant (no, SD, not radiation)...Mola Ram reaching into peoples chest, and ripping out still-beating hearts, and a 700 year old templar night is guarding the cup of christ, is any more or less believable than an alien slanted plot.

Are you on meds?  It was terrible.  Suspension of belief is one thing...but this went WAAAAAY over the top-- pointlessly-- multiple times thoughout the movie.  It's as if they forgot who the character was-- this movie lacked all of the mystery/charm that the other movies had en mass.  This one was a bunch of scenes thrown together...and it took Jones so long to piece things together, he came off as some sort of simp.  They telegraphed EVERYTHING.  Awful.  Anyone going to see the movie for the action scenes might walk away somewhat satisfied-- but it didn't keep the spirit of the originals in any way.  That's what was missing.  This movie had no soul.

Wingspan

I disagree.

I don't see how this was more over the top than the premises of the other three. They were all based around paranormal, or supernatural occurrences relating to a historical (or mythical) relic. Over time, people endeared themselves to the imperfections of those movies, and almost glossed over them in the past 20 some years.

People seem to forget how bad Temple of Doom actually was.

Suspension of belief...paranormal (aliens, glowing rocks, fountain of youth, wrath of god) event...with an adventure here who gets himself out of plenty of overblown situations (someone ripping into his chest, captured by the nazi army, more than once, and the natives of peru...etc...) is all part of what these movies are supposed to be.

The things that this really lacked (and why i don't think they were as good as the originals) was the love interest (Marion was terrible)...and some of the acting (the movie should have been done 10 years ago...Harrison is just too old to pull this off now).  And the timeframe (the backdrop of the originals with the nazis and the world wars vs the russian cold war) could have been picked better, but in keeping with continuity, had to be done.

Other than that, I thought it was a fun movie to watch.

-possible spoilers below-

It wasn't that the overall premise was over the top (it was just poor)...it was the way it was put together.  The character motivation was really inconsistent, and served to move along the "plot"  Part of the charm of the other movies was that they were largely character-driven.  This was plot-driven...and with a subpar plot, at that.

The action scenes were ridiculous.  In the other movies, maybe climbing under a truck would be a little far-fetched....or maybe the winding tunner chase was a stretch...but in this one he survives a nuclear blast by going into a fridge?  And comfortably watches the mushroom cloud?  Really?!?! He'd STILL be dead.  And let's just take that scene...he's drawn to the little house by a TV he hears in the background.  Why the hell is there a TV on in the background?  And at the end, they established that these weren't your run-of-the-mill aliens...they were inter-dimensional aliens who opened a portal to their other dimension.  Okay, why the farg do they need a huge flying saucer?  I mean, the plot was bad...but the holes in the plot were worse.

I don't disagree with any of what you said...except for your downplay of the absurdity of the originals to make the arguement that the 4th seem so much worse.

It's not better than Raiders or the Last Crusade those two are classics. But Temple of Doom was a terrible movie front to back that was unbelievable ridiculous and acted horribly to boot. Ranking the 4, for me it would be (Raiders, Crusade, Skulls, Doom).

The atomic bomb is hilarious.

See, I don't have a problem with the realism per se.  You go into an Indy flick expecting a supernatural plot, 45 guns shooting at him from 20 feet that don't hit him, etc.  It's just when...Spoiler.......

You hid in a refrigerator at ground zero?  Then watch the mushroom cloud and pretend soap and water gets off radiation??  You drive a car off a huge cliff, onto a tree, which bends into the water and drops you off safe and sound, only to head down three niagara esqe waterfalls in the car/boat without any problems?  That isn't your run-of-the-mill  suspension of disbelief, it just begins to feel like you're watching a cartoon.  I spent a whole portion of the movie laughing at it, and not with it, which is certainly not true of the 1st or 3rd one.

Wrong. The Ark was said to emit radiation that leveled armies. The 'reasoning' behind this was you can't view Gods light because it is too powerful, hence the reason Indy told Marian to keep their eyes closed. Zanshin hit on the other points so I won't rehash them, but like I said in the above post, when aliens and spaceships are involved it takes it from supernatural to sci-fi. Not to mention, religion and archaeology go together like spaghetti and meatballs, aliens and archaeology like spaghetti and shtein.

And FYI the Crystal Skulls were made in the 1800's, if you do just a little bit of research you'll find they've been tested and are a hoax.

I thought this was funny, I just hope Lucas doesn't see it and get any ideas:

I hope he sees it and loves it. Indiana Jones, on a stupid star wars creature chasing around tommy lee jones for while would be awesome movie.

Please...here is the direct quote for the movie....

Brody: Yes, that's just what the Hebrews thought.
Major Eaton: What is this? Coming out of here.
Indiana: Lightening. Fire. Power of God or something.
Major Eaton: I'm beginning to understand Hitler's interest in this.
Brody: Oh, yes. The Bible speaks of the Ark leveling mountains and laying waste to entire regions. An army which carries the Ark before it is invincible.

Radiation, lightning, fire, power of god, does it really make a difference? The Nazi's weren't singled out because they were bad guys, they tried to look at Gods light which is why their faces were melted off:

Indiana: Marion, don't look at it. Shut your eyes, Marion. Don't look at it no matter what happens

Bottom line is the movie sucked ass.

It made a difference when you tried to tell me I was wrong.

I don't care enough to carry this conversation any further.
