Cloverfield 4/5 - Felt like one long amusement park ride. The shaky cam stuff is annoying but you forget about it the first 10 minutes.

yeah i really like cloverfield also.

the special effects were really well done. i thought it was a low budget movie but looked like it cost a lot.

seemed a lot more real compared to other disaster movies.
Marge: I have someone who can help you!
Homer: Is it BATMAN!!??
Marge: No hes a scientist
Homer: Batman is a scientist.
Marge: Its not BATMAN!

I watched Blair Witch on shrooms, bad idea.

I saw it thrice. Twice while very very stoned. It made me want to turn all of the lights on in my house and never be in the dark ever again.

i watched that piece of garbage i now pronounce you chuck and larry yesterday and surprisingly laughed a lot.  it's totally corny but it's still adam sandler and he still makes me laugh.

Cloverfield. I thought it was actually really enjoyable until the last 5-10 minutes which were obviously tacked on so that they could show the monster close up. The problem is that the monster looked farging stupid close up. It was more interesting and scary-ish when you couldn't see all of it.

Oh, also, the special effects were really well done (outside of the dumbass monster closeup) but sparsely used which was good because if you get motion sick, like I do, or if you're hideously hungover, like I was, the camcorder shtein will make you unbelievably nauseous and you'll have to look away from the screen to keep yourself from harfing all over the stupid bostonians in front of you.

Side note, I keep seeing previews for Jumper and I keep telling myself that there's no way it could possibly be any good but every time I see the preview I sort of get excited about seeing it. Stupid sexy Rachel Bilson.

********SPOILER ALERT***************

rjs did you see the very last scene where in the background in coney island you see something falling into the water?

i came back last night and read up on the movie somewhat and apparently the back story is that the monster is from the ocean and it was disturbed after some satellite or something fell into the water. i was not paying attention so i did not see it falling into the water but i will try to find a pic.

also those who stayed after the credits...apparently you hear Rob's voice where he says "its still alive".

god i hope they do not make a sequel. it was good as it was...unexplained.

that scene where they are forcec into the subway...when they get caught between the monster and the army was superb. the rockets flying by and then the army opening gun fire. amazing special effects. perfectly blended in. im still amazed how they shot the whole thing.

I didn't see it fall into the ocean either but supposedly the Japs made it

I also didn't stay after the credits but heard the same thing

The sequel is supposed to be the same night but someone elses camcorder since there were a bunch going that night. It could work depending on how they do it.

i watched melinda and melinda sometime this weekend.  i hate woody allen and most of his movies, but this was a little better than most.  will ferrell was good.

Magical_Retard, I didn't notice anything falling into the water while they were at Coney Island, but I wasn't really looking all that closely and definitely didn't stay past the credits. I liked the movie and wouldn't mind a sequel, but I agree with you. The less they explain, the better it would be. If they try to come up with some sort of scientific explanation for why a 30-story monster is attacking New York it's going to turn into a laugher real quick.

If it wasnt for the special effects and the home video making it "look somewhat" real, that movie could of easily became a laugher as soon as they showed walking Loch Ness/Future Godzilla/Alien 5 prancing around NYC.

Best scene: helicopter

That movie was a tweener 3/5

Munson

Just saw Cloverfield earlier, thought it was pretty bad ass. Yeah It'd probably be your average, run of hte mill monster attacks the big city movie if it didn't come out so secretive and if it wasn't filmed the way it was. But even so, it was pretty good. And the acting wasn't all THAT bad.

And the monster and it's little minions had an interesting look.

Spoiler alert.
Anyone have any idea why that one chick exploded after being bit? WTF?

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds
