Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Raging Bull 4/5 - One of those movies I always meant to watch but never got around to. Excellent all around.

ang lee directed the hulk.

he also directed brokeback mountain. this was not a studio trying to make a quick buck but it just so happened that ang lee made one of the most boring comic book movies.

the new hulk movie is not a mindless sequel to cash in. instead of selling toys and getting kids to watch they went back to the drawing board and decided to restart the whole franchise after just one movie. the new hulk is a origins story. if they wanted a bad sequel to a bad movie they would have done so ala fantastic four.

and for being mindless dumb fans you would be happy to know that fantastic four 2 did not do well at the box office. neither did spiderman 3 compared to parts 1 and 2. so yeah the hype is always enormous but word of mouth and bad reviews do get through and the studios lose money since they need that 200+million plateau to green light a sequel or see a profit thanks to the 200 million + budgets.

besides these big pop corn movies are not hindering your oscar movies. you will always have movies with wide appeal and movies that were made solely to win awards at the golden globes and oscars. in fact im happy to see some of the better directors taking interest in making the comic book movies.

and as for batman begins...it is the smartest made comic book movie. and by smart i mean in how it goes into depth about explaining everything and actually takes the comic book seriously rather than a excuse to sell toys. and again it has chris nolan at director. the man has proven outside of batman to make some seriously twisted thought provoking movies (momento and prestige). his realistic, serious, and darker batman grossed over 200 million and not because of the hype but because strong word of mouth actually carried it long after its opening weekend. if the hulk is going to be in that direction im all for it.

Homer: Is it BATMAN!!??
Marge: No hes a scientist

The only good thing about the Hulk that came out a few years ago was Jennifer Connelly. That was the worst movie I had ever seen in a theater.

Rome

The second Ang Lee decided to use a CGI-created Hulk he lost the majority of fans.  It was a colossally stupid decision on his and the studio's part.

The plot, writing, and acting were awful too but when the main character induces laughter from the audience (people were actually laughing at it in theater where I saw the movie) you know your movie is doomed.

MadMarchHare

I guarantee the new one will use a CGI Hulk as well.  Lou Ferrigno looked ridiculous in green makeup.  And in the comic book, he's gigantic.
Anyone but Reid.

cgi is bad enough when its used for scenery or background but when the main character(s) in a movie are fake you pretty much know its going to be almost unwatchable

The Hulk was enormous in Stan Lee's original comic version of the character, that's true, but there's a big difference between what you can draw in a comic and what you can create in a computer, even in 2007.

They need to scale it down and make it more realistic - more towards the Frankenstein version that Lee originally used as inspiration for the character.

SunMo

not only did they use CGI for the Hulk, but Ang Lee used himself as the model for the computer to base the movements of off...stupid ass
