Saw 300 last night. I have to say, I was expecting more from it, but it is what it is, a graphic novel. Don't expect much in the storyline area, but expect great things from the visuals/special effects. The battle scenes were totally bad ass and went above and beyond on that part of the movie. That alone is worthy of seeing it in the theatre.

Anyway the things I thought that brought it down:

The flow of the movie was off. They fought for 10 min, switched to another scene for 10 min, fought for 10 min, switched to another scene for 10 min. I wasn't a big fan of the movie's pace.

Too man dramatic speeches. The Sparta this and Sparta that got a bit annoying after a while.

One too many cheesy lines and dialogue. It annoys me when people kill someone and then crack a joke. Stop.

Good movie though. The fight scenes were awesome.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

I thought it started too fast and didn't give too much info about what the hell was going on. I agree on the Sparta this Sparta that, me and my girl were like "SPARTA!" the rest of the night, it was stuck in are head. Def. some cheesy dialogue. But like I said you have to take it for what its worth. Def. not on a level with Gladiator, it tried, but def. not.  I liked it. I'll buy it on DVD. I'll say 3/5  :yay

i pretty much agree with everyone so far...it was a good movie, but something was missing.

they probably went a little heavy on the slo-motion, but that didn't bother me.

I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Spot on assessment. ^^^^^

It was my type of movie, I left the theater wanting to stab someone. 3.5/5

According to this...

"300" earned $27.8M on Friday.

Wasn't there some sort of bet regarding this movie's box office take vis a vis "Sin City?"

Edit - yep, see page 263 of this thread.  $73M was the over/under.

Two-thirds of the way there after one day.

Running With Scissors: Phenomenal book. Slow-moving, boring, although well-acted, movie.
Maybe the voices aren't real, but, they've got some pretty good ideas...

Saw Departed last night. Awesome gangster movie. Jack and Leanardo were outstanding.

watched The Prestige and am not sure why everyone here is jizzing all over it.  i thought it was ok, nothing special about it at all.  i actually liked the illusionist better.

I think it's just refreshing to see a movie that's decently made and has an actual "supernatural" explanation instead of a *witty plot twist* to explain it all away.  That said, the more I talk about it, the more it sounds like M. Night Shyamalan's recent stuff, which sucked.

I don't know.  I liked it.  More than The Illusionist.

I liked The Illusionist, but I saw the ending coming a mile away, so it sorta ruined it. Still good movie though, but I liked The Prestige a lot.

After seeing Departed though I wouldn't rate it in the top 5 gangter movies ever made.

God Father I
God Father II
Casino
Scar Face
Good Fellas
Pulp Fiction

It was good but as good as these? Not really.
