I almost never buy a "new and special" DVD once I have the DVD already.  This is probably no exception.

me neither. but this one i'll say is different.

this isnt a buff up of the original DVD. this is how the movie was originally shown.

Donnie Darko debuted at the Sundance Film Festival the year before the wide theatrical release. the version that was shown at Sundance is the one out on DVD today. when the film went to wide theater release there were some issues with the rights to a song in it, and the studio wanted it "toned down a little". so the dvd that has been around for a couple of years now is the wide theater release. not the sundance version.

if this was just taking a movie and throwing in some scenes that happened to be deleted to sell more copies there is no way i would think of buying it. so many movies have done this and called it a "Director's cut" that it's kind of stolen the meaning away from it. as this edition of DD is truely a direcors cut, and how it was all orginally meant (and in fact was) shown.

To me braveheart was the original 'mass battle' modern movie...and lord of the rings stands in a league by itself...I just couldn't think of other axe weilding, sword slashing flicks...and those are the ones that came to mind.

Gladiator comes immediately to mind.
Anyone but Reid.

The last special edition DVD I bought was "The Endless Summer."

That was like 7 years ago, I think.   :-D

Also not a fan of the extra crap they throw at you, especially the director's cuts.  "Apocalypse Now - Director's Cut," for instance, is unwatchable, IMO.  "Blade Runner S-E" is also horrible.

Just leave the originals alone, already.  There's a reason they're classics as-is.   :boom

Susquehanna Birder

I rented the "Angels in America" HBO miniseries on DVD, and it was, well, interesting. Not something I'd want to watch every day, but it was just okay. You could tell it was adapted from a play because of the frequent use of soliloquy. Some of the "plot" was truly bizarre and disjointed.

Watched the Longest Yard for the first time. Pretty good. :yay

The Motorcycle Diaries was a great flick.    It's not often a movie affects the way you think afterwards.... this one did for myself.

Wound up getting a gift pack of 9 Hitchcock DVDs for my birthday.  So far I've seen

- Dial M For Murder
- North By Northwest

Both very good, but of the two I think Dial M For Murder is the better flick.

... only 7 more movies to go.

MURP

Lad....  while any Hitchcock is good, I looked at your dvd set and there are some better out there.  dont miss Phsyco, Vetigo, Rebecca, Notorius, The Birds, Shadow of a Doubt, Rope, Spellbound etc.   Grab all of these after you watch your box set!

Mad-Lad

the only other one I own is Vertigo.  Hitchcock movies are flippin expensive for the most part so i haven't been able to build much of a collection (until i received the box)

I've seen and really enjoyed the Birds, Psycho, Shadow of a Doubt, Rope, Marnie, the 39 Steps, and a handful of others.  I can't really say that I liked Spellbound all that much.  Not sure why, maybe because of the emphasis on the psychological thought/ideas.  The Dali dream sequence was cool though.

I'm not familiar with Rebecca, but Notorious I've heard good things about.  Too bad every time i see the word notorious i think of the freakin' Duran Duran song.

Hitch is the man.

MURP

you da man Lad!   if you have seen the rest you are all good.

why yes, yes he is!!!!!

Wingspan

rope is my favorite hitchcock movie. followed by rear window, and psycho

and i may be the only person who thinks the Birdsis overrated and is nothing more than hitch ripping himself off of psycho. just replace norman bates with 3000 crows and you have the birds.  ;)
